Do we take this literally? Or is it figurative language? Why would God choose to pave the streets of Heaven with a metal that isn't even Earth's most precious metal? If the idea is that we're going to have the best of everything in Heaven, then wouldn't God choose a more valueable metal with which to pave Heaven's streets?

Revelation 21:21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass. John Gill Commentary And the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass; denoting the preciousness and delightfulness of the saints' conversation one with another; and the purity and cleanness of it, there being no mire and filth of sin in these streets; and the sincerity and openness of it, each one walking in his uprightness; which will be seen and known of all, as clearly as anything can be beheld in a transparent glass. So the Jews say (t) of paradise, that the ground is paved with precious stones, the lustre of which may be compared to the light of burning torches.

Streets of gold has never been a big incentive for me. If it's so common that it's used for paving, it has no significant value. Then, the Big Guy was never very good with economics and other sciences.

Rev 21:21 And the twelve gates [were] twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city [was] pure gold, as it were transparent glass.

As soon as I get there I will gladly inform you if it is litteral or not if GOD lets me.

The very first sentence of Revelations is that these were presented as symbols, not as something literal. So, what do they symbolize?
