They should be given the same rights, in all areas, as other couples .. that includes marriage. Love is never wrong, regardless of gender, and stopping people already living in the basic institution without benefit of a simple piece of paper is petty and stupid, robbing them of something that too many other people take for granted and abuse.

I have yet to hear a logical (not a religious or bigoted) reason that gays/lesbians should not be allowed to marry. if 2 consenting, unrelated adults love each other and are committed to each other, they should be allowed to get married and enjoy all the rights that other married people do. it shouldn't matter what their gender, race, religion or culture is. and, considering the divorce rate, the abuse, the infidelity and the blase' attitude that some straight people seem to have towards marriage (i.e. multiple marriages/divorces, Britney Spears' drunken Vegas wedding that she immediately annulled, and, oh, big surprise! now she and K-Fed are getting divorced), how could we possibly damage the "sanctity" of marriage any more?

Probably the biggest and most-heard reason for opposing same-sex marriage is the idea that marriage is meant for a man and a woman. Yet the reason always stops there with nothing to back it up. Occasionally you will hear the Bible's definition of marriage being tossed into the equation, but nothing more.
Who has decided that marriage is only for a male-female couple? In reality, isn't it for human couples? The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines marriage as "the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law." The second part of this definition states: "the state of being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of traditional marriage (same-sex marriage)." Another definition of marriage is "an intimate or close union". The latter definition is the more basic.
When I was a waitress my manager would ask me to "marry the ketchup bottles". This meant I was to open two bottles and turn one upside-down and place it directly on top of the other one so that the contents would fill the other bottle. The two ketchup bottles were in close union. They were married. The idea of marriage being between a man and a woman is strictly a matter of personal opinion and nothing more. It holds no factual ground.

I don't see why there shouldnt be gay marriage. Everyone should have the same rights. If 2 people are in love they should have as much right to declare it as anybody else. I think those people who oppose gay marriage are ridiculous! if they are not gay then how are they affected by it?!!!

It's a free country. It should be free for EVERYBODY, regardless of sexual orientation. Not granting this right is like saying freedome of religion doesn't exist. I am all for gay marriage.

A solid empirical assessment of gay marriage can best be viewed in countires that have had it for the longest period of time.
Denmark has had gay marriage for about 20 years. 60% of the children in Denmark live in single parent families. Childern are entitled to a mother and a father.
It's just wrong.

great question. i donno i am iffy on the subject. for one i dont believe that the government can say you cant marry that person because you both have the same tools. marriage is FOR people that are in love. If you love someone you love them you cant help it. i feel the government needs to keep its nose out of our business . they have so much control over us. but on the other hand gay guys making out kinda makes my squirm.but they ARe In love and they demonstrate it like we do. basically, i feel if your gay go be gay do your thing , but dont be gay were i can see( i mean touchy feel making out sexual things). if you wanna get married i say you can. you got rights too.

Definition of marriage is a union between a man and a woman.
A union between any two people outside of that definition is not considered marriage; however, a gay couple should still receive the same rights to insurance, property and assets. Maybe the term should be Civil Union, but not marriage.
What do you think of....The McRib? It supposedly has the properties of a rib, but it is NOT a rib, yet they call it a rib.

I've got no problem with that. Why should straight people be the only ones to suffer?
For those that argue if that gay marriages will lead to people marrying goats (or whatever), then straight marriages should be banned for the same reason.
I also believe they should be able to adopt - there are no shortages of orphans.
