Why should the death of one man be remembered more fondly (even more than his own life, which is a big unknown), when many have really sacrificed their own life for their representing groups, nations, families, ideas, etc? How about the Greeks at the Thermopilae? Gandhi? Marie Curie? Vercingetorix? Archimedes?
Is it fair for a god to say: I give you one life for all the millions that have died? If Jesus was his son, according to the Bible, aren´t we also? Or do we really need a virgin birth to qualify? Did he even exist? Curiosity again, no offense meant, it´s a philosophical issue... What do you think and how do you reinforce your beliefs?

The definition of a delusion is that it is a fixed, unshakeable belief that is false (i.e. not based on evidence or fact) and that it is not shared by the others within the individual's culture.
Excluding the last point, which can kind of be explained by hundreds of years of brainwashing on a massive scale, does no-one else think that perhaps religion is one massive delusion? After all, there is no hard evidence, yet religious people believe in their religion more strongly than anything else alot of the time, so it is therefore fixed and unshakeable. It is apparent from my work experience that many Schizophrenic patients often have complex and/or bizarre religious delusions.

I love writing letters and cards to family and friends. I write at least 5 a week, if not more. I don't always receive that many though. Is the art of letter writing dead? What is your experience in this department?

I got into this conversation with a girl who is christian, andsomehow we got on the topic of sin. She said that all sin was equal, so that murdering mass amounts on people or even one is just the same as yelling at your younger sibling. She also said as long as you believe in god you are saved by grace, so I could be a stoner, murder rapist, malester but just beacause I believe in god I'm saved. Whats to keep people from makin all sorts of chaos. Did I jus tmisunderstand something, because that jusst doesn't make sense to me, help me to understand.

Sometimes in discussions on this board atheists have grudgingly admitted that God might exist, but just not the Christian God. Christianity isn't the only religion on earth. Christianity isn't even the only religion that believes in God. Why do atheists grant such a priviliged position to one sect of one religion?

If you had to explain the best and maybe the worst features of your country to an outsider, (which you are) how would YOU describe it.

No Wikipedia pastes PLEASE! I could go there and research myself. I'd like to hear how a true native describes their country not some research paper.

Wait until I put the rest up to comment, please.

Tell me not in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream!
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.

Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal;
Dust thou are, to dust thou returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul.

Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
Is our destined end or way;
But to act, that each tomorrow
Find us farther than today.

Art is long, and Time is fleeting,
And our hearts, though stout and brave,
Still, like muffled drums, are beating
Funeral marches to the grave.

In the world's broad field of battle,
In the bivouac of Life,
Be not like dumb, driven cattle!
Be a hero in the strife!

Trust no Future, howe'er pleasant!
Let the dead Past bury its dead!
Act, - act in the living Present!
Heart within, and God o'erhead!

Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sand of time;

I'd really like to be more of a "morning person," but I can't seem to get my butt moving in the morning. Also, I can't ever seem to fall asleep before midnight, even if I take sleeping pills. Is there a way to change my ways?? I am open to all helpful suggestions. Thank you!

Hello!! :o) I hope you're OK. I've struggled with my faith in Christ practically all my life. [I'm 43 years old now] What upsets me most of all is the idea that God's love for us an 'or else' proposition. You either love God [so we are told] with ALL of your heart, mind and soul - OR ELSE. The 'or else' being - you will experience pain beyond anything you could ever imagine. [After you have died] IF I said to YOU... "Love ME or I will hurt you bad!!" - would you be OK with that?! Could you love me?! If not - why are you OK with that from God?! Some will argue, "God doesn't send anyone to Hell. WE do that!!" But that's like saying... even though the little boys mother gave her son a choice between the good soup and the poisoned soup - it's not HER fault that the boy freely chose the poisoned soup. But that's me. What do you think?! Have a great day!! Craig!! :o)

My wife and I just had a son. I'm circumcised but don't want our son to go under the knife. My wife does though and uses the excuses that she wants him to look like dad (bad argument cause we are different races so he looks more like Mom then me) and that we have to follow the biblical example.

But I told her we are under a new covenant and that Christians aren't required to follow old testament laws when it comes to circumcision.

My question to you is what is your opinion regarding this matter? Male and female answers encouraged.
