KJV, Mk 16:18: "...take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them.... " (Also multiple online Bible versions VERY clear about "deadly thing"/poison.)

Why the fascination with snakes? If impelled to demonstrate faith/whatever, why AREN'T such believers **routinely** chugalugging Drano, nicotine spray/pesticide, or any other toxic chem around, rather than scaring some poor slithery thing? (Let's leave aside whether this is "tempting God," OK?)

["Snakes...why did it have to be snakes?"...Sorry, couldn't resist using the line!]

Poison drinks would be MUCH easier than catching rattlers and won't put others at risk. It'd also shut up skeptics who say "snakes don't always bite/not all bites are envenomed".

Other than obvious in Eden and the "fiery serpents" in wilderness, any special Bible imagery I've missed?

No desire for conversion, pls--just would like to know WHY??

Are you really commited to helping us honest people or is it all quotas for the police statistics. Do you think it would improve your public profile if you laid off the motorist or are we all asking for it for doing 85mph on the motorway? Wouldn't life be more rewarding and full of purpose knowing that you were CREATED for a purpose by a creator? Why bother believing you evolved from monkeys? Both evolution and creation take faith to believe, why put your faith in one with no hope?

I think my friend maybe questioning her sexuality, but it would be really hard for her if she ever wanted to "come out" here are a few reasons why, 1. part of her family is very religious 2. her religion as well as others says that homosexuality is a sin and you will go to hell. 3. her mom and brother died a few years ago and I know she would never want to jepordize her chances of seeing them again (in heaven) and the majority of the people that she deals with would talk about her (in a bad way) if she would ever come out as being a lesbian or bi-sexual so I think she is hiding who she really is because of all these things. Her sister is a lesbian and their religious side of their family deals with it but they do not accept if because of the bible.. they say its a devilish spirit and it can go away if you pray. I would really like to help my friend, because I can imagine how hard it is to have a constant battle with yourself. But I really don't know how to help her.

Yesterday I asked a question that asks what do you fear most in this life. The majority of non believers gave answers such as: their children getting hurt or dying, losing their freedoms, losing their basic human rights,death, etc.

The majority of Christians stated that they have no fear with Jesus "lighting their path". They have absolutely no fear of any of these things.

My question to that (again) is how can you live without fear? It is one of the most basic human instincts. How can you deny being a human? It is one of the biggest motivators of survival.
How can you feel that you are above that?

Not being inflammitory, just studying.

I am on a cross-country team. For those of you who don't know, cross-country is essentially jogging in the backcounrty. You need a wooded area to run. My team goes to a local national park to practice. The park was the site of a civil war battle. People are sueing us because they claim it is disrespectful to run around all these dead people. They try to kick us out everywhere we try to run. We even tried a few places that aren't battle fields and then they claimed our running disturbs them. We should be allowed to run if we want when we want at a public park right? Post your opinion.
