Yesterday I asked a question that asks what do you fear most in this life. The majority of non believers gave answers such as: their children getting hurt or dying, losing their freedoms, losing their basic human rights, death, etc.

The majority of Christians stated that they have no fear with Jesus "lighting their path". They have absolutely no fear of any of these things.

My question to that (again) is how can you live without fear? It is one of the most basic human instincts. How can you deny being a human? It is one of the biggest motivators of survival.
How can you feel that you are above that?

Not being inflammitory, just studying.

Of course we Christians have fears...If they say they don't , they are deluded. I think given the answers to your prior question, they responded as they felt they were suppossed to IE: Biblically..The Bible says "I have not given you a spirit of fear"
I love my kids.and my Husband .I would take a bullet for them to save them...I would shoot anyone who entered my home to harm one of them...I would and have given neighbors, strangers whatever they need....I do trust God to take care of me and mine, however, He doesnt expect me me to sit back with my hands folded and do nothing!! Now my fellow Christians may not like that answer, but after careful consideration I have found that I really don't care..Jesus made me a Christian, not a damn doormat!!

Your fear is as smart as you. Expectations breed fear, disappointment and discontent. They are silent contracts that focus your attention on the outcome instead of the process with little satisfaction. Turn expectations into intentions freeing you to live your life on purpose, with purpose and get results that matter.

Living without fear, takes you out of the lie and into the truth of your own unique magnificence. Mastering fear does not imply you will never experience fear again. But rather, you win knowing what actions to take to move you from Fear at will, to Freedom.
Fear is indeed an instinct, but it is also a a choice. It is only those who distrust and fear the Source of all life, consciousness and energy, who are frightened of the inevitable.

We need to move beyond fear to a life where risks will be taken, opportunities seized, and dreams fulfilled.

The only sin in all the omniverse is ignorance. You can choose to live without fear of life, death or love.

It would most likely mean they are young brothers and sisters who live the life of the young, with feelings of indestructibility and none of the responsibilities that come with a family. I think most Christians would fear losing their children, spouse or even job. Illness too. God provides and has a plan and Jesus would help to get us through the troubles, but we have the same needs as everyone.

Bless you

I would have to disagree with your basic premise. Christians do fear. ALL fundamentalists fear. In my personal experience, their fear is greater and more essentially pathological when compared to non-believers or those who practice more inclusive spiritual paths. And why do I think this? What is the basis of my conclusion?

They live for two things. Heaven and Hell. They desire Heaven beyond anything else. Due to this all consuming desire to be with God and Jesus in Heaven, they are bone terrified of the alternative. So, Jesus might "light their path" but they're always looking over their shoulder for what they believe is the inevitable "fire" licking their collective buttock. Consequently, the greatest fear inducing statement that anyone can make to them is, "You are going to HELL!"

that's a very good question actually. see, when babies are born, they're born with only 2 fears, 1 is loud noises and the other is heights (or falling from heights)..... everything else is learned. we then have to learn to get over those fears. fear is what keeps us from achieving what God has planned for us. fear is from the devil. fear keeps us from attempting new things, experiencing adventures, etc.... but i don't agree with you that fear is the biggest motivator of survival... sometimes people are scared stiff.. or too scared to try something new or different. people have died because they were afraid to stand up for themselves or find a way out of a situation... fear isn't a motivator, it is a hindrance... personally, i'm not afraid of dying and i do feel that i am above not feeling fear because throughout the Bible, God would always tell his people, "Fear Not.". hope this helps some.

You say it is one of the most basic human instincts. Where did you get this information. I feel that I have no fears. Religion aside. What is there to fear? I think that maybe you live in a dangerous situation. Get out of it. Probably most people in the U.S. have little, if anything, to fear.

Too many movies and video games have eroded a lot of our life. Stupid bumper stickers on big trucks driven by 17 year old 5'4" 130 pounders, say "Fear this". Sorry Biff most of us don't.

Living in fear eventually causes mental problems.

F.D.R. said, " the only thing we have to fear is fear itself. " what one fears another may not. as an example one fears death, I do not. another does not fear height, I do. fear is definitely a part of the human psyche and has a strong hold in keeping us within certain constraints which helps our Culture and Society going. without fear of the consequences of breaking the laws rules and mores of Culture and Society it would be everyone for themselves without respecting anyone Else's rights and free will. total anarchy would ensue and civilization would cease as we know it.

Because Jesus taught that fear is a lack of faith.

Do Not Worry
25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[b]?

28"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Those people were just trying to act superior by lying about their fear. I'm an atheist, but was raised in church. I KNOW they have fear. My dad was a pastor and he had fear. Sure anyone can quote a bible verse that says they shouldn't fear, or don't need to fear because they are supposedly protected by "god". But they aren't protected. Jessica Lundsford lived in my neighborhood until she was abducted from her bedroom and killed by a paedophile who lived nearby. That little girl was a believer, according to her family, and she regularly attended church as well. So, where was her heavenly protection? It doesn't exist. It's just a guess, but I bet she was afraid when she was taken by that man in the middle of the night, and rightfully so.
