I'm not asking WHY they don't believe that life is meaningless.

I'm asking why they react with incredulity to an atheist's assertion that it is intrinsically devoid of meaning, except for any meaning that we ourselves choose to give it.

Ok, maybe I AM an idiot, but that's beside the point. I want to know, do all of you assume the same things she assumed in this response?

I feel compelled to reply to two statements:
"You need to get that narrow minded head of your out of that religious book that was written by men."
Actually, I am agnostic and haven't opened the Bible in 2 years, and even then it was just curiosity.

"You are the idiot that thinks babies go to hell."
Never gave that much thought, but who knows, the world isn't a fair place so who am I to assume that Heaven and Hell are either? Also, Clive Barker says babies go to Hell, just watch Hellraiser II and you'll see it for yourself.

Here's the original question. And don't bother to tell me I've got a first class ticket to Hell. I already have booked my itinerary, I got a window seat :-)

I would like someone to point me to a website that has time details on the greek and roman gods.

I am trying to find out just how long the greeks and the romans believed in their gods, as in, a time period. It does not matter which gods, what order, or anything like that, I am just trying to figure out the total number of years they believed in gods other than what we believe in today.

Does that make sense?

I have googled everything I can think of, and not found my answer. I would like specific time periods, such as 5000bc - 300ad, or whatever. I know the romans switched to current cristianity sometime in 300ad, was it 317 ad? Not sure. But when did they first start believing in their gods? Same with greeks. Thank you!

Islamists do you have any defence that the bigoted teachings of the koran spawn behaviour such as this? Is Mo to be defended more robustly than allah? How on earth do you justify the killing of a 70 year old nun, who worked so devotedly for the down-trodden of Somalia? Do you still insist that islam is a peaceful, tolerant, compassionate religion? Don't come out with your standard defence that terrorists/killers are not muslims. Address the real issue - does the koran not have teachings that inspires such murderous behavior? Why blame the pope when he is being honest?

But now he can't apologize because the religious fantasy organization that the Pope leads holds as one of its chief delusions that the Pope is infallible? How can he apologize if, by definition, he is incapable of making a mistake? Does anybody else wish this could be the start of a Holy War in which all people who live by dangerous and stupid religious myths - i.e., Muslims and Catholics - could be wiped out, and people who believe in the real world and are rational could then run things????????????

The U.S needs to always keep getting into everyones business (eventhough the founding fathers of this country said not to), and everytime someone has any sort of defense, whether it be nuclear or not (U.S has tons of nuclear stuff), the U.S always says its going to be used for terrorism. But Israel, who controls the U.S, can have watever the hell it wants.

Whenever someone criticizes anything about Islam, the backlash is widespread and invariably violent, including mob attacks, burning and other property destruction. Do Muslims not know that the way you live your life is a reflection--at least in great measure--to your religious beliefs? If you really believe in peace, then live peacefully, even if someone criticizes you.

According to Jesus, no one knows the day or hour of his coming in judgment except the Father (cf. Matthew 24:36; Mark 13:32). No one obviously includes the Holy Spirit. Yet, if the Holy Spirit doesn’t know everything how can he be God?

What follows is globally non-denominational, so please do not jump to religious conclusions.

“The test of first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time, and still retain the ability to function.” – F. Scott Fitzgerald

I think atheists they can only see one side of an issue because they do not have the capacity to see the depth of the issues. Most people of faith had to struggle to reach their faith. Atheists refuse to struggle and use excuses by pointing at some story in the Bible (for example), rather than developing their own spiritual faith.

“God enters by a private door into every individual.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

They certainly fear the unknown and are overly attached to certainty.

“If we begin with certainties, we shall end in doubts; but if we begin with doubts, and are patient in them, we shall end in certainties.” – Sir Francis Bacon
