We've all heard "proof of God is in the (beauty, order, complexity, etc.) all around you". This is a classic example of the (deductive) logical fallacy "Asserting the Cosequent". It goes: If A the B, B, therefore A. In this case it's: If God created the universe, then we will see (order, etc.) We do indeed see order, therefore God created the universe. Obviously nothing about B implies that ONLY A could lead to it.

One of the charges against Galileo was that science commits the fallacy of "Asserting the Consequent", and science does indeed work backward from result (B) to evaluate an hypothesis (A). Can anyone tell me how science avoids the fallacy? (note: I gave a hint in the question) This is in this section because it relates to deciding how reasonable an assertion is.

And don't say God was always there, nothing can be 'always there,' it has to be made.

Dan Barker (former preacher): "You can cite a hundred references to show that the biblical God is a blood-thirsty tyrant.”

Robert Ingersoll: "Few books have been published containing more moral filth than this inspired word of God."

Frank Hughes: “In this ‘sacred’ book of family scandals we find filth, sex orgies, cannibalism, atrocities, sex perversions, incest, bloody violence unparalleled in any other chronicle in all the literature of the world.”

Thomas Paine: “The Bible is more consistent with word of a demon than the word of God. It is a history of wickedness that has served to corrupt and brutalize mankind”

Eleanor Roosevelt: “The Bible probably gave me many nightmares.”

Ella Gibson: “The abominable laws respecting women in the Bible are a disgrace to civilization and English literature.”

Joseph Lewis: "The writers of the Bible were more concerned with rape, murder, robbery, slavery, licentiousness, brutal ignorance and degrading superstition.”

I'm getting tired of seeing religion versus sexuality, and people begging for porn. I'd love to see some funny jokes, or stories. Some good news, or just something goood going on in someones life.

I'll start:

Ok I'm having a little bit of a problem. It has been bothering me on some of the answers that I have gotten on my questions. People calling themselves ex christians.

OK EITHER THE HOLY SPIRIT LIVES INSIDE OF U OR HE DOESN'T. IF U WERE A TRUE CHRISTIAN THEN JESUS LIVED ON THE INSIDE OF U THEN AND HE IS STILL IN THERE NOW. IF YOU REALLY WERE A CHRISTIAN AS U STATE. U KNOW HE IS THERE. AND IT WILL ONLY BE A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE HE DRAWS U BACK TO HIM.

IF A PARENT HAS A CHILD AND IT GOES MISSING THE PARENT WILL GO LOOKING FOR IT AND WILL LOOK RELENTLESSLY. PARENTS PUT UP WANTED POSTERS AND GET OTHERS INVOLVED.

TO ALL "EX-CHRISTIANS" THIS IS YOUR WANTED POSTER. AND I ASSURE U HE WILL PUT UP MANY MORE.

IF YOU TRULY HAVE KNOWN JESUS. YOU ARE MY BROTHER OR SISTER. TO MY SIBLINGS "FATHER IS LOOKING FOR U WHY DID U RUN AWAY?"

Have been studying for a while, the problem is is that I smoke. I have tried to give it up many times, but have been unable. Will this keep from being able to be baptized, and/or a full member of the church. This question is for Jehovah's Witnesses. Come on people be kind, and not rude. We are all people who are looking to find our way.

My understanding of crucifixion is that the person was left up until rotten, and the remaining 'body' would be disposed of (usually in a shallow grave) Why then is the Jesus crucifixion story so different than other crucifixions of the time? Have the facts been misconstrued about his death? accidental or on purpose?
