For me addiction was a simptom. I was missing something and God healed me 8 years ago. He fills the need that I was missing, He's given me life in Jesus Christ.
We are worth a Son to God.
I'll praise Him always

Addiction is a physical matter.
Many of the people who claim it requires a spiritual solution are the least spiritual people I have met.
Many told me that I would die drunk in a gutter because I don't believe in God. That was 5 years ago; I've watched many of those people relapse. The big difference is that they would have been happy to see me fail.

Before you get into addiction satan convinces you to do something wrong. Once you believe satanic lies, then you for sure will do the wrong thing. After that satan has the right to control that particular part of your body that did wrong things. For instance it will be very hard for you to lie for the first time, once you lie then it will be easier for you to lie again, you will get addicted to lieing. because satan will have total control of your lips, you even lie without knowing. But for your question, from the above illustration, if one wants to stop lieing first the spirit of lieing must be broken from his life by the power of jesus then the rest will be convincing your mind not to do so, which is easier once the spiritual part is dealt with. First deal with the spiritual part then the physical.

It can be both. On one hand most persons who are drug or alcohol addicts have the disorder Pyroluria (10% of the populations has this). This is genetic and it predisposes people to addictions. On the other hand demonic influences cause similar "obsessions" which can include addiction to alcohol, sex, drugs, theft, etc. I

Physical. When you're addicted to something the physiology of your brain has changed to hyper sensitize the pleasure center for that particular substance or activity. Furthermore all of the symptoms of withdrawal are physical or physiological.
