What specifically changed, & how was it celebrated before The Hammer? I know what it represents now; I'm interested in Pre-Maccabean practices.

I need to find a shaman, brujo, witch doctor, etc. urgently. I live in the New York City area. In my experience, such people are as rare as hen's teeth. Moreover, when they do appear, they seem to come unbidden, not when they are consciously summoned. I believe that most if not all persons who advertise their alleged spiritual gift are frauds preying on desperate people. I also believe that some persons with real spiritual abilities are greedy and/or egotistical and can be dangerous to people seeking their help. However, I know that some people with a real gift exist who are not in it for the money. I desperately need to locate such a person now. Such a person might come from a traditional culture, e.g. West or Central African or Native American. I have seen the "real deal" before in my life; am not gullible; and would not be taken in by a fraud. If you know of such a person, I desperately need your help. Again, I am not looking for a "new age" type who would appear on Oprah.

benefits of believing in God? (Such as "religious people live longer," "people who pray live longer," "people feel like they have support and direction because of their religious belief," etc.)

I am not asking a question about whether God exists or not. Save that for your answers to other questions.

Here's the thing: there are a lot of uninformed people in here, both Christians and atheists. There are a lot of questions being posted that are just plain DUMB, like the following:

ATHEISTS:
"If God created everything, who created God?" - God, by definition, is the uncreated Creator of everything. Therefore, this question is moot.

"Can God create a rock so big, that even he can't lift it?" - This is not a question of omnipotence, this is a question of LOGIC. God works within the boundaries of logic. God is limited to his own laws, including LOGIC. Consequently, God cannot "out do" God; this is purely illogical.

CHRISTIANS:

"If we evolved from monkeys, then why are there still monkeys?" - Evolutionists do not think that we evolved from monkeys, but that we once shared a common ancestor.

"Just believe!" - This statement makes me sick to my stomach. Blind faith is truly DUMB in any case. "Faith" in the Bible uses the Greek word "pistis", which means "forensic proof".

There are scriptural guidelines for evaluating claims like those of the WT. The Lord Jesus said that false prophets might be recognized by "bad fruit" or sinful deeds (Matt. 15:17-20). We would have to acknowledge that all people sin, even prophets. But a true prophet would not be characterized by a consistent pattern of deliberately spurning God's law.
Therefore, anyone who claims to be a prophet should be reliably honest in all his dealings—especially in spiritual matters. The WT claims it is the "faithful and wise servant" called to dispense God's "meat in due season" (see Matt. 24:45). Those whom God has called to be teachers and prophets must be circumspect about their proclamation (James 3:1). It must always be only the truth.

I can't think of any other country I would like to call home permanently besides the US-- all I was saying is that many of us are great citizens, we should just make an effort to be proud of that in front of others from other places/countries. That's all!
