If the life given is called eternal life does that not by definition mean it is forever, eternally? How can you have something that is eternal and it be lost? (Question for the Christian especially)

Through my reading in Quran, I found two verses [2:65; 5:60] that tell a story about some Jews who tried to hunt whales on a sabbath Saturday and god punished them by turning them into monkies (or apes).

I am a little surprised because this story is just a Jewish folk that never took place and all reputable history books tells it was a myth used to be told by old Jewish people in old ages. Please see:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ape
http://www.religion-encyclopedia.com/B/babel_tower_of.htm
http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/view.jsp?artid=1631&letter=A

My question: if all sources say it is just a myth (including Jewish sources), why did the Quran mention it as a true story?

Personally, I am not very religious at all, but I choose not to label myself with a title such as "atheist". However, I have noticed that people who do consider themselves atheist are looked down upon by society.
For instance, if a Christian were to stand on a stage and say how much he loves God, the people would think he is a wonderful man.
However, if an atheist man were to go on that same stage and say "I don't believe in god," he would be completely shunned by the crowd and thought of as a terrible person.

How can this behavior be tolerated in a society where people are free to believe or worship whatever they like? People really need to become more acceptant of other people's beliefs.

If I were to ask any young person (below college level, let's assume) whether or not they believed in god, more often than not I would be answered with a quick "YES!" even if it is not true.
I'm running out of letters to type with so I'll end it here.

Thoughts?

I want to know what you think came first and why you think it came first. I am MORE INTERESTED in the why then the what. Answers without the why will not be considered for best answer.

Perhaps the Universe ALWAYS existed?!? Some say that GOD created the Universe and God was always here, well, if God always existed perhaps the Universe has too.

" Wisdom and knowledge shall be given to you; and I will give you richse and wealth and honour, such as none of the kings have had who were before you, nor shall any after you have the like."

I may have posted this question in the wrong area...SO why can straight people ask for 3 somes, degrade their spouses, commit infidelity, and not live up to God's idea of a husband/wife and be forgiven? A gay commited relationship is supposedly an abomination? WHY????

I ahev asked a similar question an hour ago but I mistyped the quote. It is from Surah Al Baqarah [2:65], that tells a story about god who prohibted people (Jews) from working on Saturday and when some of them tried to hunt whales on Saturday, god punished them by switching their bodies into monkies!

From this verse it is clearly understood that God set Saturday as a holy day (this is in Quran), so why Muslims don't celebrate it?

I ask this because people have become extremely adept at hiding such repugnant attitudes and articulate racist views in a rather insidious way.
