You can make yourself well or cause yourself to be ill, just by having your mind dwell on these conditions. The mind is a powerful thing and either you control the mind or the mind controls you. If you think "I'm sick and will never get better", the mind picks up on that and you never will get better, if you say "I will heal myself and become strong and healthy" then your mind also picks up on that and you are healthy. Some people call this process "affirmations", basically if you keep feeding a concept into your head it will cause a self fullfilling condition..for those that keep saying "My life is such a mess.." then their life will be such a "mess", start saying "Life is GREAT!" and soon you life will be better, then mind works on what it receives from you, garbage in/garbage out vs strong positive thinking in, strong positive actions out. The choice is up to you, as the saying goes "If you continue to do things the same way everytime, you can expect the same results", change your thinking to a more positive style and your life will change for the good with it. It is a simple concept, and I have shown it to others who did it and can attest that it not only works bit it is easy to do.

That's what it is- mind over matter. If something makes you well and it's not the real medication but a placebo, it is positive thinking in action. It's not always that easy- but there is power in the thought processes and the body can heal itself in many cases with a positive mindset.

I've taken justa half of an anti-dpressant pill and relaxed so much I fell asleep in 40 mins. My doctor say it cannot pphysiologically work as it takes weeks sometimes to build up to a level in the system. However, he says, -if it works-- great!
I don't have to take pills regularly and have to remember to take them. I just take a half when I want. So, yes, the placebo effect is "mind over matter"

Really it's all about what it was being used for. You give someone a placebo who thinks it's a pain killer they're liable to do something stupid to see if it really worked. (take my uncle for example) Or you coule give a hypochondriac a placebo and they'll think they're being cured when really they'll have a sugar high and then go right back into a depression state. (take me for example) Or someone would take the placebo and think that it was really a pill. Not have it work and commit suicide thinking they were immune to the medication and the pain wouldn't end. (Take my Cousin for Example) It's all about the mind true, but it's also about the surroundings and the situation.

Yes, your mind has more control over your body than you think!
One interesting study recently showed that people reacted better to NOT getting acupuncture than to NOT getting medication.
Both groups were placebo groups, but the ones who thought they were getting acupuncture did better.
Anyway, the body can do amazing things if the mind can believe it. One doctor who was good at curing warts with hypnosis
cured a young boy with an incurable skin disease. After that the doctor couldn't do it any longer- he was so shaken by the results and how they challenged his world view that he didn't believe in himself any longer.

Sometimes it's time over matter. The illness may die out on its own. Reminds me of Granny's cold cure on the "Beverly Hill Billy's" She had a tonic that cured the common cold. "Just take the tonic, get 5-10 days bed rest, and the tonic will cure you"

well the placebo effect is changes in behavior caused by belief that one has taken a drug. it is an effect to make a difference in pain, sexual arousal, depression, there a number of things that it makes one believe that they are cured. so my opinion it is mind over matter. we believe that drugs help us in some kind of form or fashion. remember the saying that my mind is playing tricks on me..............................................

I had my child using Hypnotherapy. This taught me that i can numb parts of my body at will (takes practice, but is possible), the effect can be as strong as morphine!! I had my child Drug Free by using the power of my MIND.
