Yes, your are correct. People do need to learn the truth about the Cult of Scientology so they are not duped themselves.

Yes the Church of Scientology is a destructive cult.

I don't think it was right to call PL a 'nutjob'. All sorts of different people join the cult for different reasons, some are very intelligent and highly productive people. Intelligence doesn't always protect you from fraud, or being duped by a cult. We should try to point PL to the truth about scientology. Once we have done that, it is his choice about whether he follows scientology or not, and should not be persecuted for such. It is my opinion/observation that if a member, he most likely hasn't spent any time looking at critical information from the church, as they aren't allowed to.

I should think so - any followers of a religion based on the teachings of a science fiction writer (L. Ron Hubbard) are bound to be a bit weird. It's funny how it seems to attract film stars and pop stars - I'm sure the fact that they're loaded with money has nothing to do with it! It's hard to believe people could be so gullible.

I found this video telling stories of cult members who were later abused by scientology leadership. I have not researched the verity of these stories.

Let's expand that question a little:

Are all Muslims crazy or is it just Mahmoud Ahmadinejad?
Are all Cristians crazy or was it just Urban II?
Are all Atheists crazy or was it just Joe Stalin?
Are all Jews crazy or was it just Eleazar ben Yair?
Are all...

...you get the picture.

I've never met a Scientologist but I don't think you can judge any group on just one person. There's always one bad apple in the bunch.

Tom Cruise is crazy. Keep in mind he also insulted psychiatrists, claiming he's right and everyone's wrong. If that's not crazy I don't know what is.

It was started by a science fiction writter, something that his followers don't seem to care about. That would explain a lot about their "odd" philosophies and practices.

Hubbard was a science fiction writer. His followers seem to have missed that little detail.
