When it is just what I want to do vs. what I should do, it's pretty easy to decide ultimately because I can't live completely hedonistically. However, when it comes to things where I feel like I'm expected to act a certain way because of my gender, particularly because it goes against how I WANT to act, I come into conflict. I hate gender roles, so I feel like on one hand I should be able to behave how I want and not be judged any differently than a man, but that's not always how it works. One place this typically is a problem is dealing with sexuality.

Basically what I'm asking is girls, do you find yourself stuck in this kind of situation, and how do you deal with it? And guys, what's your take on the whole thing? Am I making a big deal of nothing, or is it still important that girls play the "girl" role, as in not playing hard like one of the boys?

It's like you have to chose between pure or whore.

I thought up a somewhat simple correlation study I'd like to see done some day.
In a book I once read it stated that people need fantaxcy in their lives and that's the reason people are inclined to join religion. The book takes the possition that religious dogma is simply fiction.
So my experiment is to assemble an anonymouse survey asking questions that would assess the amount of fictional media (such as video games, movies, TV programs, and books with a fantastical theme) each person being surveyed experiences. These surveys would be taken by an equal amount of Atheists and Theists (chosen randomly, of course; Theists being the control group and Atheists the test group) and the data compiled.
Were that book of mine to be true, it would show that Atheists do in fact experience more fantasy-themed media than Theists.

My question: what do you think the results would show?

I am preparing a speech for my local community centre on the need of specialised mental health care in our area. If you can give me some pointers of what information would be relevant and what information would entice a community based centere to provide this service I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks.
Cheryl

For example watching people catch fire and burn, or a flash flood crash into a village (while being personally safe)..... something that simultaneously intensely stimulated the senses and seemed horrific or shocking because of its effect on other people or creatures.

What durable effect has it had on you?

War should always be a last action resort, going in with the utmost reluctance after all other methods for resolution has been attempted. But the word war and bombing them, taking other people's live like those "Muslims" did to us on 9/11 seems so much more common, said without the horrors of the past. Are American's more warlike, are we more willing to destroy another's culture, people and civilization? Is this what America will be known for at the start of the new Millinium? And what caused America to change so much?

I’m not depressed I’m happy, have love, and that’s all I need I don’t want money or to “be productive to society” I don’t care, I just want to be happy but am constantly made to think that my way of thinking is wrong maybe the question should be
Why do you care about doing and achieving?

Why is my thinking wrong?

I have trouble motivating myself to do anything... go to work, clean the house, take care of routine errands, etc.
Is motivation something you are born with, or can it be learned or taught?
