Gender Studies - July 2006

Many pro-choice women, (often feminists) believe men should have no say in the abortion topic, because they have no uterus. Based on this logic, should women have any say in any legal matter pertaining to men since women do not have a man's anatomy?

Why don't pro-choicers understand, the abortion topic isn't about belittling women, its about respecting unborn children?

my gf was sore for like 3 or 4 days later. im not bragging im just thinking there is something wrong with it hurting her that long. it wasnt in the whole hole so dont start to think that. it wasnt too big for her. it didnt hurt her until the morning after.

I read the Beauty Myth by Naomi Wolf some years ago and really agreed with her critique.

What do other people think who have read this book? Did it affect your life / self image? Is your self esteem tied up with how you feel about your physical appearance?

I'm of Puerto Rican decent. Outside of baseball, singers, and acting, there haven't been many notable Puerto Rican men. No Puerto Rican president, billionair, CEO, world renown scientist, etc... However, I do not feel oppressed nor that the world owes me anything. No one has to give their money, job, and/or position to a Puerto Rican just because they may bicker or form a lawsuit. If anyone has wrong a Puerto Rican/Hispanic, they should apologize, not the whole world.


Why do feminists beleive if they are not in control or "on top" they are oppressed? Why do feminists believe the world owes them everything?

Seems to me, that whenever you take a girl out to eat whether it's Red Lobster, Buca Di Beppo, Bubba Gumps, or wherever the hell food fulfills you...that women are ashamed to eat food with their hands in front of you...so, they resort to a salad. When a man dumps a woman for whatever reason, he's automatically labeled as a "dog". However, when a woman dumps a man, it's always the man's fault and she did all she could to make the relationship work.

It's just not right, and do not try to argue that this is not the case, just give me some input why this is an acceptable double standard in our society?
