I have a question to ask: If someone wants to place a tape recorder, voice activated, in order to tape somebody, where would you place it. On his person. in his vehicle. somewhere inconspicuious. Any suggestions?

Test the location first. You probably can't afford a lightweight "bugging" device, so you're best bet is to find a discrete spot where the suspected conversation will take place. Radio Shack used to sell a voice activated switch for a common tape recorder, but I'm not sure they do any more.

Search "voice activated tape recorder" in a search engine on the internet.

You'd probably have to run some tests to see which placement of the voice activated microphone works best. Of course, you want the mic to be inconspicious. How well would it work if you had a neon sign flashing overhead: "Dig your hole, get caught on tape and speak clearly into THIS microphone!!!"

How about in his car in the pouch behind the front seat? Close enough to hear his conversations but concealed enough that he wouldnt hear it turn on!

Or maybe under his seat. Just make sure it doesnt slide.
