Do psychologists get depressed? Someone told me that psychologists are not SUPPOSED to become depressed and that if they do, then they are not suitable for the job. Is that true?

I'm a teenager and have been tormented by a horrible past of abuse and sexual harrassment. The way i think is that everytime i allow myself to be happy something bad happens (eg my sister nearly died, my best friend was raped and murdered, i find out her murderer isn't in jail, i lose a friend, i get seriously ill, etc etc). I know i suffer from depression and i do tend to self-harm although i am not suicidal. i hate men (because they violated me) and i'm fascinated by girls but i don't think i am a lesbian because i was violated by one. I've had a rough childhood and i want to put everything behind me and FINALLY move on but i'm finding it difficult because i'm so confused!!!

Try to imagine you're yet to be born, and you're allowed to pick up a body to live into. However, you cannot have a perfect able body, only one between two:

Body 1: A quite ugly one. You'll never be graceful, neither pretty. But, you'll have a lovely voce, lots of languages knowledge and if no one would ever look at you, everyone would like to talk with you of everything you'll have to say. You'll live as an ugly maiden with a charming voice.
Body 2:The hottest, loveliest, sexiest woman who walked on Earth. Graceful, walking like a goddess on gorgeous legs, with eyes that makes men melt inside, praised as a living wonder, a pretty face, curvy and feminine body, luscious and lovely face, even in old age. Alas, you'll be born unable to hear and speak anything 'till you die, always relying on your now gorgeous body language, unable forever to voice your thoughts or hear any sound, a silent work of art, perfect but in a soundless world.

Which one you'ld choose? Why (in detail)?

I am not any kind of hippie and I DO eat meat, but lately it makes me feel so guilty, even just killing a spider. Am I the only person who feels this way? If not, how do you deal with it?

Misandry and misogyny seem to be the same things at opposite extreme ends. On this basis, to me it seems they are as bad as each other and the groups advocating these ideologies are equally as bad as the other group.

However, can misandry be justified? I've heard women argue that because they have been oppressed for the past hundred years, its now time for men to be oppressed for the next hundred. A sign I read seems to encourage this idea - "Too many men and not enough bullets." If a man had a sign reading "Too many women..." what would the reaction be like?

In any other nation, wich would have 4 times its annual tax income as national debt, a personal debt of 40% of its annual average (beside mortgage) and not much industrie other the Big Oil and Military to speak of, the population would hang their politicians on the next tree. Instead here, we discuss everything but. Are we brainwashed?

I remember seeing a tv show about female sexual infidelity and the frequency of children being brought up by men who were not their biological fathers - much of the time without the 'father' being aware.

It was sobering stuff for men and slightly embarrasing for women.

The claims being made by the program, were based on the findings of a scientific study. I can't remember the name of the study. Can anyone help me?

I have this really intelligent friend, academically, who annoys me much. She doesn't do it intentionally, but she's so arrogant and sometimes I get so irritated by the way she says "smart" things, and how she finds it her moral obligation to correct everything she hears and sees!!!

She is my friend, a rather close one, and I don't want to offend her or anything by being honest to her face that she's just so ANNOYING.

I tell my other friends about it, and I feel sort of guilty that I'm "backstabbing" her.

Is it really backstabbing? What should I do?

If I do confront her there is a risk that our friendship might not be the same again. I don't want to tell her about it because I don't wanna lose her as a friend.
