Simply because you need to know your roots and understand how things has developed and became what they are right now.

If you will not study this subject, I'm sure at one point in your life you will ask the origin of your identity as a Filipino and the Philippines as your country. Not knowing these stuff is just like being an orphan not knowing who her parents are! Isn't that relevant enough?

Start with the word Philippines and why study that. The first thing that comes to my mind is so that everyone else can relate to Philippinos and they can relate to everyone. Then I think that we have learned all we know by studying nature. Should we leave people out of nature. Then I see people in that past being like people now and have things for us now that have been lost as we are lost as a world. Science at higher levels doesn't omit data or people as part of the equation, especially in studying people. That is sociology. That is our major mistake. Science is adding themselves into the equation now, so must we.
The mind of the sociologist has to be part of the study as the mind can be in a box, so psychology has to be looked at from the social science point of view and social science from the psychological point of view. Social science is out of a box that way and can be said to be a science.
To relate that to why study it is to relate it to the whole and the whole cannot be left out of this question, and broadly, nothing can. Life is made of absolutes and apparent contradictions, paradoxes, questions and they drive inquiry. If you don't study Philippine Historiography you can never clearly know why you should or shouldn't
study it, like we don't know what we will find in outer space, but we've found a lot. The mind uses all it gets. The whole thinking process is relationships so the more the better, as each box tells us about all the other boxes. All the problems in the world come from people not relating to each other or to themselves, by omiting things inside and outside themselves. You have to know yourself to know anyone.
That's some seeds, a perspective to ask the question from. Everything relates to everything since the theory of relativity and Quantum Physics and it always has. How, in what manner, you relate it, is the question. For that you need specific findings and see how they relate and how it relates to all historiography and it's value as well. Just learn how to think and proceed by relating it to all the disciplines and everything else. I hope that makes sense. It's so sad that people can't relate anymore and are shy, wondering why try. I believe we all have something unique to offer of great value and how much more so whole societies? Our problem can be said to be that we don't learn from the past, can't see the future and aren't living in the now either and yet we study too much and live in the past and future. Paradoxes. It's that we study when we should live, go forward when we should look/study. I've had deep questions that were answered by looking a a simple person who was living the answer and too far beyond the answer for me to even comprehend further. You could as well answer, then, why should we study anything else? It's a pleasure to look at the world from different perspective and that one is as good as any and from there you can look at the world. In that sense, it is the world or a world view more helpful then one view alone, as individuals or as a whole, an overculture. We've spoiled the present, in some ways. There, that last sentence is philosophy related to historiography, every discipline relates. I hope that's of some value. It has helped me with a personal struggle and those are all universal as well.
Finally the subconscious uses all it's data and you don't always know exactly how or where, but it handles the vast amounts of data we give it without any difficulty as it thinks in pictures. It will have that study in all it's boxes and finds it useful in all calculations.
