Some researchers think that language & thinking are closely related & that the ability to construct complex sentences is directly related to the individual’s capability to formulate complex thoughts & vice versa. These researchers note that Americans are reducing their communication to the simple present tense in the indicative mood, rather than using conjunctions. For example, take the sentence: “I asked him if he could go.” This sentence is now often expressed: “I asked him - could he go?”

A more complicated example: “They expressed doubt as to whether or not they could accomplish this task.” Now more commonly expressed as: “They said they had doubts about – could they accomplish this task.”

What is happening here? One theory is that less intelligent people are setting the tone & that more intelligent people are being brought down to the lower level – a process described as a reduction to the lowest common denominator. Are Americans thereby losing the capacity to think?

I'm impatient when I want something to happen in life (I'm talking big stuff, like career, not waiting for a traffic light), but I'm trying to change that, without considering myself lazy.

I have a best friend, and she believes that her little cousin can see into the future (near future). I have listened to her stories, and I have also heard that it can happen when you are young, but then it can wear off. I don't want to confront her with the fact that it might wear off because she might get mad. I'm just wondering if any body knew anything about this subject. And incase you are wondering, there is a little history of paranormal activity in the family.

What is the alternative to capitalism based on continuous growth? Is this type of capitalism not destined to fail by its very nature, i.e. there are limited resources on the planet therefore growth must be finite....or do we change the currency of growth from tangible products to intangible e.g. information? Could that sustain the capitalist model?
So many questions.......so little time!

It may be hard to believe but its an actual survey. People (cant remember how many) were asked how long should it take for a grieving parent(of an baby) to "get over it" and move on with their life? The average answer was a day and a half! Is that not the most insane thing youve ever heard? I know first hand how untrue this is.

What kind of voodoo is looking at inkblots anyway? How would someone know whether their psychiatrist failed the inkblot final exam? Of course, if somebody is willing to pay hundreds of dollars to a complete stranger, they SHOULD have their head examined. How would a psychiarist heal themself, by talking to themself? It would be crazy for someone earning hundreds of dollars an hour, to go pay hundreds of dollars to someone else I think, unless they had a really cool inkblot hanging on their wall.
