I changed my name in 1982 on everything but my birth certificate as that would require a court decision and I didn't want to bother at the time . I have used my new name since then .

Drivers License, professional license, business and SS# are in new name etc.

According to law : you can use what ever name you want so long as you did not change it to defraud anyone or anything.
I changed it because I was being made fun of by family members etc. I only allow my mom to call me by my given name

I changed back to my maiden name after my divorce, just went to the solicitors and asked for a change of name deed, you need proof of who you are now, birth certificate, marriage license etc. It's better to do it this way cos when you change your bank details or mortgage they often ask for proof of name change. That is the biggest hassle, changing name on utility bills, drivers license etc otherwise it's dead easy

easy to do go to a solicitor standard form to change your name by "deed poll" you then have an official document to sort out all your details that will need to be changed!!!BUT you can call yourself and be asked to be known as who ever you want but unless changed legaly you will have probs
