There was a time when chastity and nuclear families were the norm in the black community. Just the very THOUGHT of the sight of a swollen belly without a wedding band sent shivers up the spine. But today? Doesn't anyone find it disturbing how "husband" has been replaced with "baby daddy"? Anyone who thinks a child can get by without a father is delusional. The sexual revolution of the late 60's/70's caused many many problems, but the white community seems to be gradually recovering whereas the black community is getting rapidly WORSE! What gives and why isn't anybody putting their foot down?

Hi I am curious if anyone knows a book that a young african american girl or any young girl living in an urban society can read today that would be of some help to possibly insipre them to rise above their surroundings? I have seen much literature for men out there but few for girls and if I have bumped into things they were outdated, I mean with all due respect to people like Maya Angelou their tales may not fit with the new challenges young women are facing. So I was curious if anyone knew of a book, whether ficitonal or nonfictional, that would be able to help. Of course nonfiction would be great but I assume that being they are scarce there may not be any.

What is so special about the eye? Even dogs, cats, and other animals look people in the eye. Why not our elbows or knees? Why does the eye invoke such emotion in ourselves and power to motivate others to action?

It doesn't make sense. If the law of 'Karma' is true, unless, of course, karma takes more than one entire lifetime to come full circle, then how does it explain bad things happening to good people?

And what about the "axiom" of 'What comes around goes around?' Another way to say that is the law of sowing and reaping, coined by Jesus Christ. If it is true that we reap what we sow, then why, again, I ask you, do bad things happen to good people?

A couple of my friends recently told me that elevators don't list the 13th floor under the buttons...they said that they just go from 12 to 14 and skip 13 because it's bad luck...that just sounds very strange and impractical to me...is it true?

in contemporary literature, and in the media and social interaction in general?

Does this have something to do with the limited attention span of 21st century man? Is it related to Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)? Can we blame it all on that and Ritalin? Does it date back to August 1, 1981, the fateful date when MTV began broadcasting? Or does it go back to the earliest sitcoms or the advent of television itself? Does it perhaps predate even television?

Please share your views. I am open to controversy, welcome it in fact. Is my supposition itself full of holes? Tell me so.
