I agree with Scotsman: I believe I should be able to buy anything made from anywhere without penalty.

However, I do not see that intellectual property is any different from material products. The premise is the same. A resident of the US who produces any product here will be much more likely to spend most of their money here, which includes the cost of the product and the profit.

As far as the workers being better off, yes, THEY are. But they are also a big part of our cost of living being as high as it is today. That in turn, led to higher prices for US made cars (which were poorly built at the time) and made the better built foreign cars more competitive than US cars.

I sure do like the question, though. A snappy comeback: "Where was the stereo, camera, computer, small kitchen appliances, clothing, prescription drugs, etc. made? The majority of these items, and many more items, are made in foreign countries. Also, aren't most of these old geezers (like myself) living a more affluent lifestyle than we were when these products came from factories in this country?

Not quite the same relation there. Some people want you to buy cars from the big three because they are made in North America (though many foreign makers have plants in the US as well).

Music is more of an 'intellectual' property and doesn't have a base of manufacture. CDs don't compare to vehicles as they are made for pennies.

I think you should be able to buy what you want. I try and buy items made in the USA when I can, but my last American car was junk so I bought a car that is made mostly in Great Britian, Germany and Brazil. Figure that one out. ;)

People are saying buy from the 'big 3' as it's supporting the UAW...American workers...not so much that the cars are American made (with foreign parts). Sorry to hear that some think they are junk, but you'll find junk in all brands. I've had no problems with the Chevys that I have owned.

(allowed) Please inform all those "patriotic" people that "foreign" companies invest BILLIONS in America the same way America invests BILLIONS in other countries. Hundreds of thousands of Americans make a living off of foreign owned companies.
