A recent study in Biology Letters has shown that a mutation causing a silent chirping in crickets has been spreading rapidly in a hawaiian cricket population.

http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn10121&feedId=online-news_rss20

The article comments on what may happen in the future, but doesn't mention the possibility that the crickets with the flatwing mutation will eventually constitute a separate species from those that remain able to call.

This seems like a perfect example to me of what may promote speciation in a population. Am I missing something?

I saw one in my house last night!
It was a light brown color, about the size of a soft ball (and it was round) it had about 6 inchs of tail with a about 1 inch ball on the end of the tail.

(first thing i thought of when I saw it was Fizz Gigg off of Dark crystal)
any one have any ideas what it is??

i know this question is a little silly, but i was just wondering, if the ocean is all salt water, then why don't the fish and other animals die of high blood pressure due to the salinity?

From my erlier probing questions i have come to the conclusion that we all need to take a step back from our own presentations , research presentations and begin to challenge how we postulate our theories . Our postulations must be free from conflicting jargon like calling cells organisms and organisms cells , calling bacteria cells and cells bacteria .

We need to test our own convictions against the true behaviour of elements , cells and macro molecules such as proteins . we seem to hide behind TIME in evolution and its miracles as what Christians might hide with the Bible .We accuse them of unproven belief and yet we have TIME Factor as a cover to a disjointed theory . How many Professors were awarded doctorates for saying an Amoeba was a primitive basic cell simply because they had a microscope that had a very low defination . They simply defined what they saw and made it into Law. Darwins theory of natural selection is now cooling off like the Big Band events have overtaken it
