Why don't canals flood?

Just occurred to me that I've never seen an overflowing canal!

Does a Lightning Bolt Make a Sound? (not talking about thunder)?

This morning a thunderstorm was in progress and i wanted to bring a few things from around the yard into the garage before it started raining so i went outside not realizing how close the storm was. When i got a few feet from the front door, I heard a sizzle sound (accompanied by the lightning flash) and immediately after (possibly less than a second) the thunder. I decided to try to get to the stuff I wanted to bring into the garage and a few seconds later, again the sizzle and flash, immediately followed by thunder.

This question is not about thunder: I understand that thunder is the sound produced by the discharge of electricity that is lightning. This question is about the sizzle sound that I heard when the flash occurred. If you could drown out the thunder and were close enough to a lightning bolt, would it make a sound?

P.S. I don't think I have to explain that immediately following the second sizzle/flash/thunder I ran into the house like a schoolgirl, heart racing...

is it hot hot hot where you live.?

here in grand bay al, right on the gulf coast it is so hot and humid you just cannot go outside. too hot when you wake up and hot when the sun goes down. at least no hurricanes in sight.

can a man turn back the tide?

theres a strong theory that when moses threatened, the egyption pharoe with natural calamities if he didnt let the iraelites go, there was a polution cloud above egypt, waiting for his answer, if he let them go the cloud would have dispursed out to sea.but he didnt let them go, so the cloud came down on egypt. so the pharoe could have turned back the tyde of disater. do we have the same choice

Sunset Times?

Just wondering what time the sun comes up and sets in where ever you maybe in the world.
Here in Queensland Australia at this time of the year (Winter) the sun rises just after 6am and is setting just after 5.15 pm.

on a trip recently across an open highway, with not a breath in the air, our full sized car was sideswiped?

with a major gust of wind that actually "moved" our car to the right!!--any ideas as to what this may have been. Was quite disturbing and a little bit "eerie!"
