According to the weather service (obviously) with cloud cover you get higher temps, but is this solely due to the tropisphere or are there other atmospheric influences.
Or which is my main Q. Does the 0 temp in space have any influence?
Happy New Year to all who answer and those who cant be bothered

The midwest can have tornadoes, the Gulf of Mexico area can have hurricanes, California can have earthquakes, etc... Either in the US or in the World, where are there no natural disasters? This can include extreme temperatures that causes deaths as well... Does such a place exist where nobody dies due to the weather? I live in Arizona and it's pretty disaster-free, but we can have extreme heat and flash floods and people can die in small numbers due to those.

I am puzzled - I have seen other answers to this question which say that it is the 'tilt', and I see that there is less energy reaching the northern hemisphere in Winter in total because of the angles. My question though is not about why Summer is hotter than Winter, it is about how hot the Sun feels. When the Sun is in the sky in Summer it feels hot (and burns !), whilst in Winter it does not feel so hot (even though the Sun can be at the same angle in the sky, say 10am in Summer the Sun is at the same height in the sky as at 12 o'clock in Winter). It can't just be the ambient air temperature - I can see that in Winter the air would be colder overall - the question is about radiant heat from the Sun directly; the Sun seems to be colder in Winter. I don't know why - it's the same distance away, it's at the same angle in the sky (though at different times of day).... what's the answer ?

I am a snow lover. When winter arrives I am checking the forecast on a DAILY basis, hoping for a chance of snow. This winter....forget it!!! Temperatures have been averaging 10 degrees above normal. It is almost January and it is 50 degrees! I hate this. It's winter, for christ sake. How about some snow??? Someone with a background in meteorology PLEASE explain to me what is causing the above normal temps in this region and giving us boring rain...and NO SNOW!!!

And how come every time the temps drop below freezing, the skies miraculously clear up. But as soon as precip moves in, surprise surprise the temps rise and we get nothing but rain!!! Very frustrating!!!

I am 32 and have lived in MD all my life. I am used to having cold spells with snow, then warmer temps and a melt down to prepare us for the next snow. And historically February is our snowiest month. But when you see Denver getting 2 big snows in a week and nothing but rain here it gets frustrating!! CRAP!

I'm particularly after some general information about the area rain would likely to fall given evaporation from an inland lake.

OK, so this winter is warm in North America and Western Europe. Big deal. It's not global warming; it's just El Nino. Baghdad was 25 degrees F this morning. The Middle East is getting its coldest winter since 1964. Shouldn't you look at the entire world's weather before making hasty conclusions?

My husband has had to drive through Denver on I-70 going West to get to a new job and he is stuck in the snow storm right now. He is on the West side of Denver heading towards Vail. He is headed to North Eastern Utah. If he doesnt make it by tomorrow morning he probably wont get the job that they are holding for him! Im so worried about him and the job. Do you think he will make it? Does anyone know at what point he will be safe, out of the storm and back into decent weather? Im just very worried about him. We dont live anywhere near where it snows, so I dont know much about it.

With all the people screaming about global warming, and how we are responsible, I would like to know who really is correct? It seems that our Weather Experts can't predict next weeks weather, why should I believe them about what will happen next year? If a volcano puts more damaging gases into the ozone layer than we have since walking upright, why does everyone run scared when an activist screams rising tides, world wide flooding?
With 50%+ of the polar ice-cap melted off, why have the tides remained the same as years past?
