that saying has always bothered me. Jasper Carrot joked in his stand up comedy about it being minus 50 in the arctic and it snows all the time.

I was on a flight watching the computer screen display info about speed, altitude, etc. This was on a clear calm evening. The temperature at 15,000 feet was 17°F (-7°C). Surface temperature was 54°F (12°C). Using the lapse rate of 3.6°F per 1000 feet, shouldn't the temperature have been much colder, like 0°F?

I'm reading stories of roads impassbile (still), people getting stuck in airports for 5 days, stores still closed...

I thought Denver was a city that got a lot of snow. Here in southern New England, we consider ourselves to be relative lightweights in the snowfall department (compared to, say, Buffalo or Maine) and we occasionally get a big one (in 1978, for example, there was 50 inches of snow and 10 foot drifts). In 2005 (our last "blizzard" as it is defined by the weather service, heavy snow alone doesn't constitute a blizzard) we got 22 inches of snow with drifts up to around four feet. The city of Providence was cleared out by the late afternoon of the next day.

What's wrong with Denver?

I live in the freezing bowels of Canada. When I go on vacation to a somewhat warmer climate, where the temperatures are around 5 to 10 degrees Celsius (40 to 50 degrees F), I find it warm and walk around in a t shirt and shorts while people look at me like I'm crazy. Is my body physically used to the cold or is my mind just fooling me? In other words, am I convincing myself that I should feel warmer than these wimps and so I do?

I watched the Discovery Channel's Everest show. It seems that everyone was cold, and many got frosbite. What I don't understand is, hasn't anyone developed any technology that can keep people warm in subzero temperatures?

It is like, blazing here! Warming up to 76 or 78 degrees a day! Anyways, I don't feel the holiday spirit. The house is beautiful, the music is playing, but something IS DEFINETELY MISSING! Is it global warming, What? Christmas can't be just days away!!
