With 2000+ thunderstorms going on at any given time around the world. With 100+ lightning to ground strikes per second. And known recorded deaths by lightning over the last 70 years of 8000 or so, a little afraid my not be a bad idea. Personally I love watching lightning and don't worry about it. I've seen hits as close as 500 feet (water and ground).

Abdolutely not. However, don't live your life in fear of thunderstorms. I say just stay aware of them and go about your business when they are occuring or forecasted. If threatening, unusual, rapid changing conditons are occuring before a thunderstorm, then it's time to be a little afraid, but dont plan your life by them.

we all have fears of something. That is why we are not perfect. Thunderstorms still make me jump, but I love to watch the lightning(from under the covers)

Learn to watch the weather radar . Look for fronts colliding with low pressure areas and low pressure trough. The more the temperature difference with the colliding factors. The greater the difference the more severe.

Yes. Just be sure you're not outside in open area, in the tub or on the phone in case lightning strikes. The thunder sounds scary, but won't hurt you.
