I was reading something a college professor (who is also a paleontologist) posted on his website. He said, "Evolution is an observable and testable fact whose predictions have been repeatedly corroborated." If you will, please help me understand this better. According to my understanding of evolution, it takes many, many years for changes to occur, so how can anything be observed?

Please only answer this question if you can keep your emotions under control. I say this because many people seem to get very upset or otherwise excited when they talk about this subject. Notice I have placed this question in the Science category and not the Religion and Spirituality one. I am purposefully trying to avoid a debate. If you are a creationist, please do not respond to my question to tell me what you believe in. I am fairly well versed in creationist viewpoints, so there isn't any need for your responses, thanks.

the history of science is full of eras that thought they had solved the 'secrets' and look so silly a few generations later.

all of our big discoverys are based on computer modeling ( planets - global warming - black hole theory - big bang studies and on and on ) do you really think we have the knowledge to predict global climate or say what the conditions were seconds after the big bang ( we say we do )

I'm writing a small warning note in a lab procedure, and I was wondering if I could put the biohazard symbol next to the warning (since it is toxic if ingested, and it's a skin and eye irritant), or if I have to use the toxic symbol, which is a skull. (I would much rather use the biohazard symbol, but If I should use the toxic symbol then I will).

my mom said that when she was young and lived in china, it was humid in the house. she once left a pot of porridge in a dark corner and forgot about it. when she needed the pot again, which was around 10 days later, she found that there were bugs inside the pot. btw, the pot had a little hole on its lid(its a chinese pot) Is that possible? she said it had nothing to do with flies though....but i dont believe it

(Can you name me something, anything, that doesn't put a child or adult at risk?? Doesn't giving a child a penny put them at risk because it can be swallowed? Isn't every person walking down the street "at risk"?
