My gf and I have been taking walks lately and there is one section of concrete in a parking lot that looks as if someone spilled water on it. I noticed that it has never dried.

What could someone put on concrete or pavement to make it look wet, and stay that way?

I saw an article about him in a trade journal last week. Does anyone else think that it's all an act, that he's probably a real stud once he removes that bowtie?

4) In an experiment, a researcher manipulates one variable to see how it affects a second variable known as the ____ (IV or DV?)
5) In an experiment, a researcher manipulates a variable known as the ______ to see how it affects a second variable. (IV or DV?)

My Answers:
1) IV
2) IV
3) DV
4) DV
5) IV

I get these confused even with the explanations. I would appreciate it if someone can show me another way to look at these research values (a mnemonic or trick to remember IV and DV). More formally, it would be nice if you can check my answers too...just to see if I'm doing it correctly. Thanks!

I'll reward for Best Answer (I promise)

I am not too clear on this one. Is it because the fuel is being burnt after ignition so the total weight of the shuttle and fuel decreases?
Help will be appreciated.

When people talk about emmissions of CO2 they often talk about it in tons. Do they actually mean the weight of it or the volume? If they mean the weight, how would they measure Hydrogen or helium?

If I hold an object and plaster my prints over it, can I erase them by simply sliding my hand firmly out? I've noticed that on dusty surfaces, (or any surface where fingerprints show to the naked eye), sliding my hand out erases the print, and there is no fresh print of the sliding hand/finger. I know if i lift my hand directly, i leave a fresh print, but what if I drag it to and off the edge?
We've all seen in it in the movies, where the guy cleans his gun with a cloth, but can he do it with his hands too? Ofcourse I may have not noticed something in my crude little experiment, but is it possible? Is it really possible to disguise the print with your fingers itself?

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, which created the Doomsday Clock in 1947 to warn the world of the dangers of nuclear weapons, advanced the clock to five minutes until midnight. It was the first adjustment of the clock since 2002

Wow. Now we are going to take the theory of global warming into account when adjusting the doomsday clock? Aside from this (the clock) still being one of the most egotistical and idiotic creations of the human race, at least in the old days it was a symbol of a desire for peace and security. Now it's going to be the global equivilent of the lifetime movie of the week? Why not add cervical cancer and violence against women to the list and bump that clock up to midnight? Does anyone really cringe and cower in fear when this clock is moved now? If so, how do you feel now that it's used for the flavor of the month cause?

I am currently working on a sci-fi novel that takes place in a city state (Santa Fe) about 2009 years from now (4016) It's about a group of some Nobles' 19 year old daughters and other people being hunted down by a communist agency, at the same time they discover evidence of a secret society working on a resurrection project. I am pretty good with the writing itself, but am having some major difficulty introducing the story in a "non-boring" fashion. Any opinions or suggestions?
