I mean seriously, instead of taking the time to open a book or generally do some genuine research we just type a question into the magic box and wait for people to answer it.

I'm thinking about the science section in particular, some of the questions on there are clearly from exams or assignements and from people too lazy to work things out for themselves. It goes beyond externalizing your doubts and it becomes SOLVE MY PROBLEM NOW!

I remember reading a guidelines document for a forum, I think it was on C++ or something, and it said at some point that the forum's golden rule was that you first try to solve the problem yourslef and then ask questions based on the doubts that emerged after you hit a roadblock. I don't see that happening around here...

I'm guessing 3 years because it would be so useful.

Would it stop a recession if we were about to go into one?

A woman conducting a survey asks a man how many children he has.
"I have three children."
"And how old are they?" she asks.
"All I will tell you is that, working in years if you multiply their ages the answer is 72 and if you add their ages the answer equals my house number."
With that he shuts the door. The woman looks at the house but finds it impossible to work out the age of each child.
She knocks on the door and protests that he has not given her anough information.
"Oh, I forgot to tell you," the man says, "my oldest child likes chocolate" and then he shuts the door.
How old is each child?

This is how I am doing it as I have no background in math or physics hated them in college and passed with "very generous D's" aka all we had to do was show up and we passed.

I have to figure cubic feet for a remodeling job my husband is doing and thus the heating and cooling which seems to go by cubic feet.

This is an example of how I am doing it which I think is right but am not sure.

I am using my parrot cage! LOL

It is 36" x 24" x 48" in height.

So I take 36inches x 24 inches and I get 864 and then I take 864 inches x 48 and I get 41472.

Then to change it from 41472 cubic inches to cubic feet I am thinking to simply take 12 inches x 12 inches and I get 144 and then 144 x 12 and I get 1728.

So now I know that there are 1728 cubic inches in one cubic foot. So now I take the total cubic inches of my parrot cage which is 41472 and DIVIDE this by 1728 and I get 24.

SO...... my parrot cage with inside dimensions of 36"x 24" x 48" in height has 24 cubic feet.

These were hilarious. Does anyone know what the winning entries were? (published the week before)

Which isn't to say all creationists fall into this category, but the ones who rant here seem to. They don't understand the science; they further don't seem to understand the religion either. The "conflict" between religion and evolution is a false one that came about for a variety of socio-political reasons. I know some southern baptist preachers who believe in evolution, and likewise most evolutionary biologists I've met are Christians who attend church regularly. There IS NO CONFLICT. Evolution doesn't reject God anymore than the theory of gravity rejects Him as opposed to having people believe that God personally keeps us all from falling off the planet. Rather, all science, including evolution, illuminates the mechanism by which God chose to effect creation, and makes the creation that much more amazing in the process. Anyone who tells you Christianity and evolution have to be opposed to each other is a complete nutjob.

Why are these loons attracted to this site?
