You don't have to be a scientist or even an organ or tissue donor. The help comes from a program called folding at home.
http://folding.stanford.edu/
You can help by simply running a piece of software. Folding@Home is a distributed computing project -- people from through out the world download and run software to band together to make one of the largest supercomputers in the world. Every computer makes the project closer to our goals. The Folding@Home project ("FAH") is dedicated to understanding protein folding, the diseases which result from protein misfolding and aggregation, and novel computational ways to develop new drugs in general.

The following quotes were taken from actual medical records as dictated by physicians...

By the time he was admitted, his rapid heart had stopped, and he was feeling better.

Patient has chest pain if she lies on her left side for over a year.

On the second day the knee was better and on the third day it had completely disappeared.

The patient has been depressed ever since she began seeing me in 1983.

Patient was released to outpatient department without dressing.

I have suggested that he loosen his pants before standing, and then, when he stands with the help of his wife, they should fall to the floor.

The patient is tearful and crying constantly. She also appears to be depressed.

Discharge status: Alive but without permission.

The patient will need disposition, and therefore we will get Dr. Blank to dispose of him.

Healthy appearing decrepit 69 year-old male, mentally alert but forgetful.

The patient refused an autopsy.

The patient has no past history of suicides.

The patient expired on the floor uneventfully.

Patient has left his white blood cells at another hospital.

The patient's past medical history has been remarkably insignificant with only a 40 pound weight gain in the past three days.

She slipped on the ice and apparently her legs went in separate directions in early December.

The patient experienced sudden onset of severe shortness of breath with a picture of acute pulmonary edema at home while having sex which gradually deteriorated in the emergency room.

The patient had waffles for breakfast and anorexia for lunch.

Between you and me, we ought to be able to get this lady pregnant.

The patient was in his usual state of good health until his airplane ran out of gas and crashed.

Since she can't get pregnant with her husband, I thought you would like to work her up.

She is numb from her toes down.

While in the ER, she was examined, X-rated and sent home.

Occasional, constant, infrequent headaches.

Patient was alert and unresponsive.

When she fainted, her eyes rolled around the room.

I have asked this in on area and now going to ask in a different area to hopefully get some different answers.
I am in Medical Anthropology. And doing a project on Medical Compliance. as in Complying with doctors orders. I have a few questions I would love if I could get some health workers to answer for me. any help would be great. 1.) What is your career title (CNA, MD, LPN, etc.)? 2.)What was the reason for your last visit to a doctor (illness or injury.)? 3.) What did the doctor tell you to do or what was the prescribed treatment? 4.)What did you do ( did you follow the doctors orders or did you do something else)? and lastly 5.) Why did you choose to do what you did? PLEASE BE HONEST WITH YOUR ANSWERS. This is for a class project on research on the gap between awarness and behavior. Thank you for your help?

Someone told me this, "I am as healthy as can be and don’t rely on medicine to achieve that."

What would've ABSOLUTELY (or a high chance of) killed us in the past that now, due to medicine, doesn't (or the risk is significantly lower)?

I know taking more than prescribed of anything is a bad idea. I merely want to know out of curiosity. So you don't need to tell me I'm stupid.
