Where can I find out about working shallow-water (under 1,000 feet deep) O.T.E.C. power plants that are actually producing power? Can this be developed to work with rivers, too, using Thermoelecricity as the generator? At what point will I be able to obtain "net energy" after losses from the pumping of water?

Thanks for all suggestions.

For another example of an under-utilized nearly-free-energy application, this time, in transportation, check out this TV newscast in Youtube about an electric vehicle that works on dead battery cells:

When a schematic shows multiple grounds, do the grounds need to be electrically isolated from each other?

Also, I've seen implementations where the ground is really just wire connected to the chassis. Why does this work when leaving the wire unconnected doesn't work? Does it have something to do with capacitance?

I'm going to be a junior this year and I need a couple of liberal arts/elective ideas (I have 2 more I'm required to take). I was going to take elementary italian but the class time was changed, making it impossible. Any suggestions from those with a good experience? Anything that would be indirectly helpful to an electrical engineer, or just fun (and hopefully easy) to take? Please don't hesitate to list multiple ideas.

Going into my first semester of Comp. Engineering I wanted to know if I should plan to take any C.A.D. specific classes in the future. My curriculum covers some design aspects but I'm not sure if any of the classes feature in-depth studies of using this kind of drafting software. I just wanted some opinions from people who are currently working engineers in the industry or well into their respective curriculum at other universities.

I am designing a race car chassis. I have considered chassis as beam. In case of a bump, I have assumed that extra inertial loads will be acted on left tires (both front and rear). Now this means two vertical loads eccentric to centroid are acting on the beam. It beats me how to make the shear force or bending moment diagram in this case. Can anybody help?

Surely we don't believe that millions of tonnes expelled hydrocarbons annually is more environmentally friendly than long term storage of a few tonnes of radioactive material?

Fact - The fuel is very cheep and the European and American designs have comprehensive safety features.

Fact - The people running them in European and American are very competent (highly degreed and very well trained).

Fact – would really reduce the green house gas affects.

Negative Fact – Bad Management of Three Mile Island in the USA and Chernobyl in the OLD USSR).

By the way, I am part of the Oil and Gas Industry, so no gain from me, just a question!
