Fst = (Ht-Hs)/Ht
Where Ht is the expected heterozygosity of the total population
andHs is the average expected heterozygosity from within each population

If there are two populations
Then
pop 1 :p=0.76,q=0.24
pop 2 :p=0.80,q=0.20
therefore
2pq=2 x 0.76 x 0.24 = 0.3648 in pop 1
and
2pq=2 x 0.80 x 0.20 = 0.32 in pop 2
This means that
Hs = (0.3648+ 0.32)/2= 0.3424

To calculate Ht
average p = (0.76+0.80)/2 =0.78
average q =(0.24+0.20)/2=0.22
therefore
Ht=2 x 0.78 x 0.22 = 0.3432

From these two values we can say

Fst=(Ht-Hs)/Ht = (0.3432-0.324)/0.3432=0.002331

BUT WHAT if there are four populations
Please help to explain

I heard a theory not too long ago that humans are slowly losing their pinky finger. I'm just curious to know if anyone has heard anything scientific on this subject; links would be appreciated.

Our DNA and the DNA of all other living organisms is in the form of a code or language, is it not? Do languages spontaneously develop, or do they always have intent and an idea to communicate from some source behind them?

To understand the entire question and its complexity, please see

http://cosmicfingerprints.com/ifyoucanreadthis.htm

This in not religious spam, it a scientific look at information systems theory as relates to pattern vs. design in language. It is a lot to read, so I broke it down in my question, but it is well worth reading for anyone interested in evolution, from any viewpoint.

Please, I'm not looking for dogmatic answers of any persuasion, but a thoughtful response to a challenging question.

She found it in Maryland and said that it is actually pretty small. I thought that it may be a leaf hopper but I wasn't able to find a picture of one with similar coloring.

If dogs communicate through barking sound, when humans make these barking noises towards dogs, is it possible that we are actually saying words to these dogs and is that why they look in sometimes a curious way, and sometimes they turn very hostile when some barking sounds are made???

Just want to know if it is possible and can someone elaborate

I'm not thinking of a normal habitat that might occur in nature, but rather a bio-engineered habitat. It seems to me that one actually could evolve a habitat with a mixture of microorganisms that are evolved to be responsive to certain very specific fish in certain very specific ways - ways which may enable a fish not normally accustomed to one type of water to handle it at least at a tolerable level.

There's not necessarily an ultimate "purpose" for such a scenario, I'm just curious if we currently have the knowledge that would be required to produce such a thing. It would make for some interesting "novelty aquatic displays", I'd think.

For science fair, I'm considering doing a project with resistant bacteria. Basically, I would grow bacteria, then expose it to hand sanitizer, rubbing alchohol, or anti-bacterial soap. (Woo-hoo, IV) Whatever is left, I would reproduce and expose it again and again, to see how long it takes the bacteria to become resistant. (Woo-hoo, DV) There's just one problem. What would I do with the resistant bacteria when the experiment is done? How do I kill it off? Any biologists in here have any ideas?

Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium in trisomics: If the frequencies of the F and S alleles at an electophoretic locus situated on chromosome 21 in humans are 0.6 and 0.4, what are the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium genotype frequencies in a population of Down’s Syndrome sufferers (they have three doses of chromosome 21)?

Random mating: The three alleles at the human ABO blood group have frequencies of about 0.3 A, 0.1 B and 0.6 0 in Caucasians.What is the expected frequency of AA x 00 matings?

I know evolution doesn't have a purpose, but when we observe complex mechanisms we wonder about their biological significance...
I understand the importance of finding beauty in people (selecting fit partners, other sociologic things), but what would be the advantage of liking to watch certain landscapes, the sunset, etc?

Do you think this is a subproduct of other selected process (for instance, it is important to be able to classify people as beautiful or not, so when that ability it comes up it is selected, but it isn't restricted to people only) or that it is important per se?

I don't know if I made myself clear... This is one of the things that comes to my mind once in a while, so I'dd like to hear some other opinions. :)
