I asked this in another section but no one seemed interested haha so I thought Id have a go here..

What I mean by this question is:

In proper science (hehe :P joking) when we have a new idea for a treatment plan or a drug - we (generally) have to go through research proposals, ethics approvals, then months/years of animal testing, followed by months/years of clinical trials.

All of this is regulated and must be approved by the relevant bodies to ensure safety and efficacy. You must provide evidence!!! evidence!!!!!

Why do alternative medicines and procedures get away with not doing the same thing? Why are they not held to the same standards of safety as 'traditional' medicine is? 'Natural Herbal' remedies contain chemicals just as a synthetic drug does. This is basic biochem. Alternative therapies have an effect on the body just as a traditional ones do.

What do you guys think?

I always get kicked off YA for asking this, but I SWEAR I am serious: I've had a life long interest in evolutionary biology. My question is: If condoms were used by humans 100% of the time, would Homo Sapiens go extinct, or would evolution find a way around it???

If so, what might it be?

Let's imagine that 50,000 years ago there was a small group of humans living somewhere in the forest of Northern Europe: 7 grown men, 12 grown women and 9 children. Six of those men are prime examples of masculinity, strong, muscular and sweaty, each "taking care" of 2 women. One, however, is a deformed geek who is tolerated by others, but not allowed to actively participate in the life of the group.

One day, the six able-bodied men go off hunting for a mammoth. Several days pass, but there's no word of them. It appears that they all died tragically. The geek suddenly becomes the only grown male of the group and he takes full advantage of that, inseminating each woman repeatedly until they're all pregnant with his offspring.

His joy is short-lived, however, because now the group has lost their main source of food. They are forced to forage for berries and mushrooms and starvation sets in. 2 women and all of the children die of hunger, leaving only the deformed geek and his harem.

At what age do most people begin to go physically downhill? My friend is 24 and she said she is losing the elastic of her skin already and her muscles are looser. She thinks she was at her physical peak from age 17-21.

Can someone please explain to me how I can find the answer to this question?
Thanx.

The body's largest organ is the skin, weighing an average of 2.7 kg.

Convert this to pounds.

What percent of your body weight is that? (for someone weighing 105 pounds.)

I read where people who are against abortion say "Religion didn't decide when life began, science did ." . The point was that science determined that life begins when a fetus' heart starts beating, etc, but that was years ago, and I'm vague on the details . I know a fetus' heart doesn't start beating until a long time after conception . Apparently, biologists are looking for a series of bodily functions when they're trying to define life in a fetus . What kind of bodily functions are they looking for ? When DOES science say life begins ?

Something like 99% of biologists think that evolution via natural selection explains the creation of human beings. Why do most people doubt this? And why do they think there is a controversy among scientists where none exists? It's true there are biologists (like Michael Behe) who doubt evolution. But the overwhelming majority do not doubt it.

Now, it's one thing to doubt Evolution, but it's entirely different to claim THAT THERE IS A CONTROVERSY AMONG SCIENTISTS WHERE NONE EXISTS.
