an alternate allele of the hemoglobin gene can cause sickle-cell anemia when a person is homozygous for this allele, but that a person who is heterozygous for the allele actually can derive a benefit from it--protection from malaria. In the United States, 8 percent of African Americans are carriers for the sickle-cell allele, while in central Africa the figure is 20 percent. What could account for this difference? Assess.

Yahoo news says that in 3-10 years we will create artificial life. They say it will be a "big deal." I am not sure why. Maybe the first few days after the scientists of the world have VERIFIED that artificial life was created, but then what?

It is a one cell life form...

It probably will be years and years before we develop it into anything that walks, etc.

I think we have a better chance of having aliens land and become our neighbors, or robots like on I-robot, being built, before artificial life is anything more than a 'speck in a lab.'

What do you think?

With all our studies and research, how is it that we (The entire scientific knowledge of the World) are unable to create the simplest of life forms like the amoeba, paramecium, euglena and the flagella?

We have studied the RNA, the DNA, the Mitochondria and Ribosome’s. We know the protein chains and the PSA PTA reactions. We understand the enzyme interfaces and arobic resperation process.

We toy with life... cloning, morphing and even re-engineering it.

So why haven't we tried creating life... from scratch?

You say that it is backed up by years of experimentation and studies yet evolution has never been replicated in an experiment and Darwin who first came up with evolution is not even in todays science text books. So why is it again that you choose to believe in the theory of evolution?

My friend is wondering. He's got a girl who is accusing him of being the father of the child but she doesn't seem to want to let him get a DNA test on the baby.. So he's wondering.
