Skeptics are those folks that don't take things on faith - they need to have something proven to them - they say "Show me..."

Scientists need to question even the most fundamental notions in order to determine the nature of the world. Einstein even questioned how do we know if 2 things that are said to happen simulanteously, actually are happening at the same time... I mean, who would question that? That's why HE was Einstein, I guess.

The point to many scientists is that they don't necessarily take anything on faith. They want to see the actual evidence (or even do the experiment again themselves) before they come to a conclusion.

Skepticism is doubting everything. Keeps you asking questions. Never taking anything at face value. Leads to discovery.

if i tell u that jumping off the building 50 floors will not KILL u... and it's pretty well established.... are u skeptical? why ? A scientist will say... "wat r u saying? the force and energy from 50 floors will be enough to splatter your brains to pieces, i doubt that is true!!" or should a scientist say " oh.. for real? i believe u! "

I would assume the scientist has his own beliefs and maybe his own research on certain material. I think it is good to a little weary about somethings, if one was not, than that would be perfect, and nothing is perfect.
