A few of us in the office here are discussing 'Saw', a film which one of us got out on DVD last night, where the protagonist cuts off his own foot with a hacksaw.

Obviously it's not something that is met in day-to-day life for most of us, so we were just wondering how much blood there would be if someone did lose a hand or foot, how far would it go, realistically, and how long would it bleed for if left unattended? It's just that in some films it gushes like a hosepipe for ten minutes, and others it just sort of...dribbles out!

Thanks

It was believed that all cells came from the division of a pre-existing cell…and that before division, everything in the cell was doubled …

How was this possible for both humans and amoeba?
Why is this necessary?

Humans need to eat to survive. We need to reproduce to survive. When we have sex it's enjoyable... i.e an orgasm. But when we swallow food our body doesn't experience the same euphoric high. Is this a flaw of nature... or did our God do this to us. We must eat to survive, so why is it not as enjoyable as sex...?

I've always been fascinated by the praying mantis! They are lightening quick, resourceful and stealthy.

Spiders also fascinate me! Creatures that build webs...its just so interesting!

Could it be that a male who could reproduce quickly while the female was still sleeping and this less able to reject his advances might have better reproductive chances? Or could it be that the rested body having had time to produce sperm was fitter for reproduction? Any other theories?

I have read the following statement : Research cites that a young, growing forest--following harvest operations--is much better for the environment than an old growth stand of trees. Actively growing trees between 20 and 70 years old have the ability to sequester carbon, whereas trees beyond that age are carbon neutral and even begin to release carbon into the atmosphere. (this is an industry report) The question is are these facts true, false, misleading, incomplete. Could you also list sources. Thanks.
