It was believed that all cells came from the division of a pre-existing cell…and that before division, everything in the cell was doubled …

How was this possible for both humans and amoeba?
Why is this necessary?

let me guess. your religous right? lol. thats the vibe i get from your question. um.. your questions is also a little vague..

do you not understand the process of cell division?
do you not understand the concept?

kinda think of it as spontaneous generation. something cant come from nothing right?? so your new skin that grows back after a cut, well it came from the skin surrounding the cut...

in the begging, when there were only elements something had to start life... so... through a little carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, maybe some nitrogen, and stir them on a planet that is starting to calm down and what do you get? proteins. these proteins begin to replicate, and there are more and more protiens. soon, you get micro organisms. they divide to produce more and more complicated organsims.

well, then a couple billion years later. presto. evolution at its peek. = ) ( thats us incase your wondering)

um.. so does that answer your question. i mean its Not "necesary" but its what naturally happens. if not, well then lets see you manufacture a cell ? hmm....
lol

ok, well take care. = )

Yes. I think this is true. In fact this is one of the 4 cell theories.
Cells are capable of cell division. If you think about it, we came from two different cells, namely the egg and the sperm cell. They combine and then become a new cell, a zygote. This zygote will then divide to 2 cells in the process of mitosis and later to 4 then to 8 and so forth and so on. This is a proof of evolution, thus proving that we came from a single celled organism. This is necessary for the survival of the species and inheritance of traits.

"It was believed..."???? What do you mean by that?

Your body is full of bacteria. You couldn't digest your food without bacteria in your digestive system. Each bacterium is less than a cell since it doesn't have a nucleous, but it can produce more bacteria faster than you can eat your lunch. It does it by dividing into two bacterium, and then four, etc. Bacteria are our very ancient (3 or so billion years ago) ancestors and that's not a "belief", it is a fact.

The process of mitosis ensures that daughter cells get a full and correct complement of genetic material in eukaryotes. Google "mitosis."
