Because we don't use all our fingers in the same way. The fingers that do more work are larger.

Then again, some people seem to be all thumbs.

DNA, Evolution and Natural Selection! The critters with different sized fingers (based on random genetic mutations!) found ways to make life easier on themselves and therefore were the ones to reproduce, which over many many generations made a population of homosapiens with different sized fingers!
