What is so good about knowing our, and other , solar systems, that we see the need to spend billions of dollars in research? Would it not be better for the human race to put the money toward health care, housing, and other causes that could benefit humans? Don't get me wrong, I love learning about space, I just think that people should be cared for first.
Just want to know what others think.

Take into account radiation, location and sand storms.
I would build it underground near a polar ice cap.
each section would be part of the ship bringing it there.
One main section for the engine
s and an attachable section that is actually a prebuilt section that the shuttle or whatever docs with in orbit then leaves for Mars.the section is put in place on the planet and the shuttle leaves for another section.
Maybe it is built on the moon .
