im doing a project on rockets and i really need help on it so if u can answer my quetion ill really apperate it thanks alotmfor helping

In space, nothing. In the atmosphere, may act to dampen any movement of rocket along its short axis (pitch and yaw). Like the feathers on a dart or arrow. Here is a site which describes the movement in rockets .

Prevent the rocket from spinning on it's axis. The fins also have control surfaces (Sometimes) to enable a simple level of control by the Astronaught.
Or, are you talking small rockets - weapons?
If so, then the fins are keeping the rocket in a stable attitude too.

mostly for structural support till first stage burn out,also to stop rocket from spinning
