A star basically fuses Hydrogen atoms into Helium, creating light & heat. The star is formed when gas collapses in a nebula by gravity, heating up. Atoms begin to knock into eachothe with just the right amount of force to fuse themselves.

Hi. It depends on it's mass. Small stars live long undramatic lives while massive stars burn all their fuel and usually explode.
