Is a Black Hole, an actual 'hole' in the fabric of space like its name suggests? Or is it simply an extrememly dense ball of mass? And if so, what happens to all the matter and radiation that gets pulled to it? Where does it go?

I have heard that the rate of rotation of our planet is receding. So I assume that at some specific time our planet will stop rotating. I wonder what could happen next. Will it still circle the sun or is it also possible that the rotation will reverse?

Who believes that the world will end December 2012 because the mayan people predicted this a couple thousand years before now and they also predicted World War I and II. This is just an opinion question and yes you should freak out. =)
