In other words, does the diameter of our solar system lie parallel to the diameter of the Milky Way galaxy, like two dinner plates lying on a table? Or, are we closer to perpindicular, as if one of the dinner plates were standing on end?

I was driving home one evening and at the top of a very high cloud I saw something. It looked like several pieces of metal, almost like it glittered and shimmered in the sunlight. Could have it been pieces of something? I don't mean a UFO though.
