When a 4.00 kg object is hung vertically on a certain light spring that obeys Hooke's law, the spring streches 2.50 cm . If the 4.00 kg object is removed , (a) how far will the spring stretch if a 1.50 kg block is hung on it , and (b) hoe much work must an external agent do to stretch the same spring 4.00 cm from its unstretched position ?

The missus and I recently moved into our new home about a month ago.
When I woke up this morning I noticed a pen that had been on my desk was now across the floor, as if thrown.
I knew it couldn't have been my wife, as we were together all night.
I checked with the cats.
I asked "Mr. Sniffles" (not his real name) if he had noticed anything out of the ordinary. I trusted his mature judgement as he is eight. His reply: "Nope, the kitten (eight weeks) was surfing the web all night, and I...look man, when you get the phone bill, just pay it and don't ask questions...A cat has needs."
I asked "Miss Stink Pickle" (she has flatulence issues) and she told me; "Hey look, I'm trying to play Halo3 here. Anyway, how the f**k am I supposed to throw anything? I don't have opposable thumbs?"
I started to ask how she managed to use the controller, but that was a can of worms I didn't want to open.
So, do you think my house is haunted?

With the ocean levels rising due to global warming, why can't we have desalinisation plants at the coast and either ship or pipe fresh water to drought stricken areas? That should help the farmers who need it for crops and the decreasing rivers.

using science? According to the bible humans lived hundreds of years in the beginning. I am wondering if science can come up with any explanation for how that could be possible when we are unable to live a comparable amount of time today even though we have more technology than ever.

...No faith answers please. I am just looking for SCIENCE!

I have spent my life on the farm and read many comments by individuals or groups usually with an agenda, that reference farms as "factory farms". I am interested in hearing from individuals who eat meat to the vegan groups, what determines this title.

If you travel in near light speed you can travel into the future. However if you need to travel back in time you will have to travel faster than light. But since you need infinite amount of energy to push a matter into light speed or beyond, the only way to travel faster than light is to the warp the space and travel through the distortion. But when you do this, you are not actually travelling faster than light in the physical universe becuase you are doing so through a distortion created in space time. So in fact its possible to travel into the future but not possible to travel into the past and kill yourself like in terminator. What do you guys think?

I have been taking 80 mg.s of oxycontin for year's, and my refill is due Wed. For the 1st time, I have either lost my pill bottle or it could have been taken. This happened 2 day's ago. In the meantime I have been taking my 10/352 vicodin pill's that are supposed to be for break-through pain. But after today I won't have a thing. And I'm scared, I know that there's supposed to be withdrawal and I am really going to feel my pain now...I have 12 bad disc's. My friend has had surgery and is getting off of her pill's {lucky her } They rec. I don't get surgery. Anyway, she will give me some of her methadone pill's so that I will be okay. I never have taken anything the dr. has not given me. He will not be here till Wed. so I can not go to him. IF I were to take her's I would prob. take 1/2 and see what happen's...But 1st I needed to ask all of this. I hope you all can understand my way of asking...Thanx.

I think so because the equations would have to be SiH4 and the lewis dot structure would give you a s H on each side pulling equally in each direction and I think the electrons are equally shared. What do you think?

As it stands, string theory is unproved, and perhaps unprovable, as it involves interactions at energy levels far beyond any we can handle. But to those versed enough in the language of mathematics to follow it, it is beautiful. And in its beauty, string theory is the heir to Einstein's primitive first attempts to produce a unified field theory. It is multidimensional and some versions include as many as 26 dimensions, with 15 or 16 curled up in a tiny ball. It is geometrical: the interactions of one multidimensional shape with another produces the effects we call forces, just as the "force" of gravity in general relativity is what we feel as we move through the curves of four-dimensional space-time. And it unifies, no doubt about it, in the math, at least, all of nature from quantum mechanics to gravity emerges from the equations of string theory.
