I have been taking 80 mg.s of oxycontin for year's, and my refill is due Wed. For the 1st time, I have either lost my pill bottle or it could have been taken. This happened 2 day's ago. In the meantime I have been taking my 10/352 vicodin pill's that are supposed to be for break-through pain. But after today I won't have a thing. And I'm scared, I know that there's supposed to be withdrawal and I am really going to feel my pain now...I have 12 bad disc's. My friend has had surgery and is getting off of her pill's {lucky her } They rec. I don't get surgery. Anyway, she will give me some of her methadone pill's so that I will be okay. I never have taken anything the dr. has not given me. He will not be here till Wed. so I can not go to him. IF I were to take her's I would prob. take 1/2 and see what happen's...But 1st I needed to ask all of this. I hope you all can understand my way of asking...Thanx.

both are two totally different medications
I would never take something so strong as methadone..... especially if it is someone elses prescription.... its very dangerous, considering you already havy oxy in your bloodstream, and you dont know how your body will react to methadone because you have never taken it.... too dangerous.call your md and see if they cant call you in a prescription.....

Oxycontin is an Opiate, Methadone is not.
Methadone will keep you from going through withdrawals, but you could also get addicted to Methadone.

The first signs of Oxycontin withdrawal will not be an increase in pain, you will feel very cold and shiver.

Call your Doctor and get a new prescription first thing Monday, if he is not there he should have someone on call for him.
They may not give you a whole month's worth of meds, but they will at least give you enough till your regular doc gets back.

Methadone is used for treatment of the withdrawal symptons of oxycontin as well as heroin. I wouldn't take it because the wrong amount ( too much or too little) can be lethal
go to an E.R. or a walk in clinic you could really mess with your body if you go off oxy to methadone and back.
And with the pain your back would be in I wouldn't mess with the scheduling your doctor has for you

methadone does not equal oxycontin 'sort of' or otherwise. it is used in pain management yes, but it's main use is in heroin withdrawal. it is highly inadvisable that you use your friend's meds without supervision. i would suggest you go to the nearest er where hopefully a physician there or mental health specialist could help you getting the right meds you need. good luck.

because methadone remains in your body longer you have to take it less often--otherwise it may build up to dangerous levels

if it a matter of a few days--preferably stay with the vicodin as it has a similar (=familiar) timetable
