To solve for x and y, solve the first equation for y.
2x + 2y = -16
x + y = -8
y = -8 - x
You now have a value of y. Substitute it into the second equation for y.
4x + 3(-8 - x) = 5
4x - 24 - 3x = 5 Distribute
4x - 3x - 24 = 5 Combine like terms
x - 24 = 5
x = 29 Add 24 to each side
Now plug x = 29 into the equation y = -8 - x to solve for y
y = -8 - 29
y = -37
Check by plugging the values of x and y into the original equations.
2(29) + 2(-37) = -16
58 - 74 = -16
-16 = -16
4(29) + 3(-37) = 5
116 - 111 = 5
5 = 5
IT WORKS!!
x = 29; y = -37

Multiply by 2 to get 4x + 4y = -32 then subtract the second expression. This gives you y = -32 -5 = -37.
Substituting for y gets you 2x -74 = -16 which can also be written 2x = -16+74 = 58. So x = 29.
Testing: 4x = 4 * 29 = 116 and 3y = 3 * -37 = -111
116 - 111 = 5 which is true.

OK, in order to get the values of x and y, you need to do something to one or both of these equations such that either x cancels out or y cancels out. When you do something to an equation, say multiply by 2, you need to do it for each member of the equation.
In this particular case, I will multiply the first equation by -2, so that 2x will become -4x, 2y will become -4y, and -16 will become 32. I will leave the second equation unchanged.
-4x - 4y = 32
4x + 3y = 5
---------------------
Now, notice that we can get rid of x now, because -4x + 4x = 0.
So that leaves us with (-4y + 3y) = -y, and 32 +5 = 37.
-y = 37
then, you multiply both by -1 to get:
y = -37 // this is now the value of y.
Now that you have the value of y (which is 37), you can substitute this into any of the equations and get the value of x.
To check whether your answer is correct, plug in both values of x and y into any of the above equations and the need to balance.

we sum these two:
....2x+2y=-16
.+.4x+3y=5
ok now we should do something that one of then x or y removes
we know taht the sum of the mines number and plus nomber is 0 (a+(-a)=0)
and 0+a=a
ok now i wanna remove "x"
...-2 (2x+2y=-16) => -4x-4y=32
i put it in bracet and sum them:
...-4x-4y=32
+..4x+3y=5
------------------
.....0-1y=37 => -y=37 => y= -37
i put it in one of these equations:
2x+2y=-16 ---> (y=-32) => 2x-64=-16 => 2x=48 => x=24
dont get it?

2x+2y= -16and 4x+3y=5
-2x -2x -4x -4x
-----------------------------------------
2y/2 = -2x/2 -16/2 and 3y/3 = -4x/3 + 5/3
divide every thing by y
y = -x - 8 and y = -4x/3 + 1.7
then you graph
