You and your friend are playing tennis. Your friend lobs the ball high into the air, hitting it 3 feet above the court with an initial vertical velocity of 40 feet per second. You back up and prepare to hit an overhead smash to win the point.
a.) Use the model h=-16t^2 + v0t + h0 to write an equation giving the height of the lobbed tennis ball as a function of time.
b.) At what time t does the ball reach its maximum height above the court? What is the maximum height?
c.) If you plan to hit the smash when the ball falls to a height of 8 feet above the court, how long do you have to prepare for the shot?
d.) If you plan to hit the smash when the ball is between 6 feet and 9 feet above the court (inclusive) what are your possible preparation times?
e.) Suppose you hit the smash when the ball is 8 feet above the court. It takes 0.1 second for the ball you smashed to hit the court on your friend's side of the net. What was the ball's initial velocity coming off your racket?

Write balanced chemical equations or formulas (annotated where appropriate) for each of the following descriptions:

(i) oxygen undergoes photodissociation in the upper atmosphere;

(ii) the nitric oxide molecule undergoes photoionisation in the upper atmosphere;

(iii) ozone is formed in the upper atmosphere;

(iv) ozone is destroyed in the upper atmosphere;

(v) nitric oxide catalyses the decomposition of ozone in the stratosphere;

(vi) nitrogen dioxide is an acidic oxide and forms an acid solution in water;

(vii) sulfur dioxide emissions from industrial sources cause acid rain;

(viii) why rainwater is naturally acidic, even in the absence of any polluting gases

(ix) despite the answer in (viii), why the pH of unpolluted sea water is about 8.2

(x) why nitrogen is not, but carbon dioxide is, a 'greenhouse gas'

Scientists are experimenting with a kind of gun that may eventually be used to fire payloads directly into orbit. In one test, this gun accelerates a 5.0 kg projectile from rest to a speed of 3.8 103 m/s. The net force accelerating the projectile is 4.6 105 N. How much time is required for the projectile to come up to speed?

hydrogen was (or is) the initial element in the appearance of matter in the Cosmos? Has anybody postulated on how or why ('God doesn't throw dice' - Einstein) the first hydrogen atom (or its components) appeared out of 'nothingness' preceding the Big Bang, of couirse? I understand the religious implications of this question, but observe that 'everything' He did, seems to eventually prove logical and with a scientific basis.

Find the work done by force F = -3j (pounds) applied to distance that moves on a line from point (1,3) to (4,7). Assume distance is measured in feet. I just started learning vectors so I'm not sure if the following is correct:
Would the distance be (4-1, 7-3) = 3i + 4j?
Since W = F•D, is the answer (-3j) • (3i + 4j) = -12 foot-pounds? Thanks in advance

Do you remember it? It was so fun and at the end it turns out the alien and your ship was the bad guy using rad gravity to collect all the items for himself. I was a little kid back then and that just blew me outta the water when that happened. Much like how darth vader turned out to be luke skywalkers dad.
