haha I really don't know...it is just a high school physics problem..... the negative sign possibly means that it is going in the left direction.....we studied something about that.....

a.acceleration = change in velocity / time
acceleration x time = velocity
2.5 m/s/s x 5.4 sec = 13.5 m/sec
CHECK THE WORK
acceleration = final velocity-initial velocity/time
since the car started at rest the initial velocity is 0
acceleration = 13.5 m/s - 0 m/sec / 5.4
acceleration = 13.5 m/s divided by 5.4 sec
acceleration = 2.5 m/s/s

b. velocity = distance / time
velocity x time = distance
13.5 m/s x 5.4 sec = 72.9 meters

for letter b question
Distance = D = 1/2 x acceleratin x time square
D = 1/2 x 2.5 x (5.4 square)
D = 36.45m

in case you caricature the situation on a velocity/time graph, you will get a triangle whose height is a1*t1 [ answer to a)] in case you drop a perpendicular from the utmost factor to the backside you divide this triangle into 2 suitable angled triangles. the full distance coated is the component of those 2 triangles. component of first triangle = (a million/2) base * height = (a million/2) * t1 * a1 * t1 = (a million/2) a1 t1^2 [ answer to b] component of 2d triangle = (a million/2) * t2 * a1 * t1 entire distance travelled = component of triangle a million + component of triangle 2 = [(a million/2) a1 t1^2] + [(a million/2) a1 t1 t2] = (a million/2)a1t1 ( t1 + t2)

Ordinarily, a negative accleation means the object is being slowed. If is is already at rest, how can that happen?
