I know that the lifetime of a muon is about 2.2 microseconds. In terms of relativity, is that measured in the muon's reference frame, or the earth's reference frame? I'm doing a question about how a muon travelling at 0.99c from 10 km up in the atmosphere can make the 30 microsecond trip to the earth's surface within it's lifetime.

compound for molding items? I realise it wouldn't be as practical as polymers. But the basic idea behind steaming and bending wood for furniture is that they become more flexible when steamed. What would be suitable as a solvent for them? Would it require heat, pressure, what? And could the separated cellulose fibers be used for something else, like paper?

This is for some fiction I'm writing, but I'd rather have realistic details than making stuff up. I don't want to have people say "That's impossible! it can't work!"

Serious answers only, please. If the question isn't clear, say so, and I'll provide more details. Thanks!

Somehow, the scientific community has failed to communicate the difference between Darwin's concept of 'origin of species' (which means how one-celled life forms self-propagated into all the different species we have on the planet today) and how/why life itself came to be, which evolution doesn't try to answer.

How can scientists communicate this to the religions, especially the fundamentalists? It's important, as religion still rules the world through the leaders of both the East and the West, and the LAST thing we need is another Dark Ages.

Any good opinions out there?

If I have a single phase 200 Amp panel with phase "A" loaded at 24 amps and phase "B" loaded at 14 amps, would that make my total load at 120 Volts 36 amps? and then to convert that to 240 volts would I simply take the VA of 4320 VA @ 120V and divide by 240? That seems way too low. The problem is that all I have are the reading from the two legs of this panel, A & B... I need to know what the total load is with these two readings. These are radio panels so everything being powered is continuous, 80% rule mind you.

Thanks

race car driver makes pit stop and refuels, after refueling he leaves pit with acceleration whose magnitude is 6.0 m/second squared, and after 4.0 seconds he enters the main speedway. At the same instant, another race car that is on the speedway and traveling at a constant speed of 70.0 m/s overtakes and passes the entering car. If the entering car maintains its acceleration, how much time is required for it to catch the other car?

Ok so i setting it up as Vo=0 for driver 1, and a=6.0m/seconds squared. and t=4 seconds. Then for driver two i got a=0 since hes going at constant speed and V=70m/s. but which formula do i use?!

3. Suppose you are visiting a planet in a distant part of the galaxy. to determine the acceleration due to gravity on this planer, u drop a rock from height of 55m. The rock strikes the ground 1.9 seconds later. How many times greater is the acceleration due to gravity on this planet than that on earth?

55=1/2(a)(1.9)squared so 3 times greater?
