Alice's grandma has a birthdate which is a 5 digit palindrome in the form a-bc-de, month-day-year. If D is 1 more than e and c is 2 more than b, what is her birthdate?

Palindrome means reads the same backwards and forwards, so you really have just 3 variables (A = E and B = D), so think of the numbers as A-BC-BA

From the information you know that B is one more than A and C is two more than B.

Possible answers:
1-24-21
2-35-32
3-47-43
etc.

You can see that only the first set of numbers make sense because no month has more than 31 days.

So Alice's grandma was born January 24, 1921 (1-24-21). It was a Monday, by the way. Do I get extra credit for that?

If it's a palindrome, then it reads the same backwards and forwards. so it's really in the form of "abcba". This means b = a + 1 and c = b+ 2. This means c = a + 3 too.

Since "c" is a single digit, then "a" can't be more than 6. And since it leads the date, it can't be 0 (we have to assume there are no leading digits for the month or date, because otherwise it would have to be 6 digits and not 5). Similarly, "bc" can't be more than 31, which is something the first answerer seemed to miss. If "a" is 2 or higher, then "bc" is 34 or higher. So "a" can only be 1.

So the only one that makes sense is "12421". We're told this is m/dd/yy format, so her birthday is 1/24/21.
